Both teams will present their best

COMMlRCEBODY .
Campaign Being Waged For
New Members of
Organization
Bevfnty-seven new members of the
Chamber of Commerce represents the
Sfsulta of the labors of several wide
awake members of the organization
membership campaign has been in prog
ress there for the last two days and
will last about that much longer.
Secretary M. R. Ken man of the Cham
bcr of Commerce said last night that
there is uo desire to wage an intensive
campaign. Rather than that, they are
giving an opportunity of joining to a
few business men who are wide awake
and interested in the welfare of the
city and the adveut of the camp.
One reason for the need of new mem
bers is the necessity of having-tbeHrody
as representatives as possible so that
it can more effectively perform the
duties devolving upon it as a result of
new activities that are about to enter
the city.
Another reason is the need of funds.
The Chamber of Commerce has taken a
very active part in securing the camp
and other activities for the city. The
tasks of securing favor for the city has
been an expensive task to the workers
and. must be borne by the city. Hinre
the Chamber of Commerce is composed
of the leading business men of the rity,
it is considered only right that the
business men should back up projects
of this sort.
Membership in the Chamber of Com-mer.-e
is open to all citi.ens of the city,
provided their application! are acted
upon favorably.

MR. BETTS SOUNDS
A NOTE OF WARNING
Danger of Increased Immorali
ty As Result of Camp's Com
ing Is Pointed Out -
To the Editor. We feel that the hour
in Raleigh's history, has arrived when
absolute candor as against prudery
should manifest itself, and we as hon
est eitiseiis who love its citizenship
should sound a note of caution in no
uncertain tones regarding the dangers
which may assail our young girls, in
additiou to those which usually beset
them. The horrible discovery made by
tha examining physicians that ."1211 out
of every thousand of our soldiers wera
tainted with a venereal disease on en
tering the army, has opened the eyes
of our nation to the heart sickening
fact that large per cent of our young
men lead corrupt lives and are utterly
unfit to marry and become the hus
bands of pure women and the fathers
of rhlldren. Just think of it. Nearly
one out of every three young men you
meet is diseased, aad in mmt rases in
curably so. The physicians of our
land, if they should speak out, and
why should they aotf could tell s sad
