Walter A. Watson, of Virgin tn, was re
ported in a critical condition tonight
following an operation in a local hos
pital for mastoiditis.

in Judge Harris' court. These to
gether with a pistol carrier and a pick
pocket were the chief offenders for the
crowded rtuat of Monday s court.
Hubert Fowler and J. K. Kexton were
each lined Vl and costs for operating
a car while intoxicated. D. D. Orissom,
young white man from Hendeison. was
up on charges of carrying a concealed
weapon and being drunk. He pleaded
guilty to being drunk but denied hav
ing a pistol which, the officer testified.
he saw him throw in the floor of the
ear from which be was arrested. Gris
anm said he did not know that the pis
tol was in the ear. From Orissom 's
stutemeots and the evidence of the wit
nesses, tho court was not satisfied, so he
was fined S5U and costs for the con
cealed weapon and 15 and the costs
or drunkenness.
Dnrsey Jenkins, mulatto, on a charge
of picking the porkets of Henry Know,
an old negro of !",' was bound over to
January term of Huporior court under
foOO bond, which he was unable to give
and was remanded to jail. The testi-
mony f - witnesses to the effect
that Jenkins grabbed the moiiey, "rau
and was pursued by Kimw and others.

was not found on Jenkins who slipped
it to a confederate.
James Lavtsnn, found with five gal
lons of corn whiskey, was aentenced to
twelve months on the roads. An appeal

was fixed at S5UM. He was unable to
give fond and was placed in jail.
The case against John Warren and
Troy Warren on charges of selling
whiskey, was continued until 8atnrd.iv,
December 27, so as to have all witnesses
present.
W. H. Black pleaded guilty to being
drunk and received a suspended judg
ment on payment of the costs.

G. Barbour, O. K. Honeycutt. and Hav
den Allen were each fined 5 and costs
for drunkenness.
CUSTOMS TO BE OBSERVED
DESPITE WILSON'S ILLNESS

along the road between Washington ana

President Wilson plays golf will receive
Christmas presents from the White
House this yesr as usual despite the
President's illness. The presents have
been purchased and will be delivered
Christmas morning, probably by Mrs.
Wilson.
Another usual custom, that of giving
turkeys to all employes in the White
House executive offices, also will be
observed.
The President will bt permitted to
eat turkey Christmas day, Bear Admiral
Grayson, his physician, said today. He

charged with the murder of his fiancee,

er the alleged crime that he was not in

police detective, a .second alleged writ
ten confession by New. J. H. Richard
son, a newspaper man, testified that New
had admitted to him that he killed Miss
Lesser because she would not marry
bim and was emplmtie in asserting that
there was no foundution for reports the
girl might have killed herself.
