14 dhaiham Record THURSDAY, MARCH 24, 1SS1. H. A. LONDON, Jr., Editor. OUIt RALEIGH LETTER. From our Special Correspondent. March 22, 1881. Editor Record : The Capitol looks like some banquet hall deserted, now that the Legislature is ono. Of the one hundred and seventy representa tive men from all parts of tlie State, who have been with us for the past nine or ten wt eks, hardly one lingers upon our streets. Most of these men have gone homo with the conscious ness of having done their duty, and I trust their constituents will nvc theni the welcome plaudit of " well done." Their departure is perceptible a every turn : but y ni must not think tint Raleigh is iiK o.i soluble. The f.iet is some folks think that a Legislature is but a necessary evil after all : and "WASHINGTON. LETTER. f i com our Kegular Correspondent. "Washington, March 18, 1881. The interest at this political centre will probably be kept up till far into summer. The lower house, it is now thought by many, will be convened in extra session before the middle of May. Interviews with a number of leading men, of both political parties, develops the fact that there is a wide difference of opinion touching the probability of a call for an extra ses sion. Stalwart Republicans general ly think that it should he called, and Democrats beMcve that their oppo nents will improve their opportunity. Few persons are aware of the stir ring events that occurred in this county just one hundred years ago, and to which we think a reference would now be proper and opportune.
