A terrible lire broke out here late last evening which threatened to wipe the town out of existence, 'All efforts to check the flames' proved unavailing owiog to the inflammable nature of the buildings. The tire originated in Mowrey's -foundry, at the north end of t he town, and aided by a stroug wind the buildiugs on the north side oi: Main street were soon destroyed. Every business place in the town was burned. Forty-live places of business and thirty-eight dwellings were destroy ed, and fully fifty families are with out food or shelter. Supplies of food were received to-day from out side places, but there was not suffi cient to go round. Assistance is greatly needed, and relief and shelter committees have been organized.
