The four-ye?.r-old son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Johnson, of Pomona, was horribly burned late yesterday afternoon and died a few hours later from the injuries. The lit tle fellow was left alone in a room, and when the mother re turned a few minutes later she found the child enveloped in flames. Pittsburg, Pa., December 18 Stockdale Snyder, aged 28, of Wilson Station, near here, was using a comb made of inflamma ble material while sitting near a gas grate last night when it caught fire and communicated the flames to his hair and cloth ing, burning him so severely that he died a few hours later. Killed by a Toy Cannon. Charleston, S. C, Dec. 17. A toy cannon loaded with buckshot caused the death here this after noon of John T. Mangum, a Wake county farmer, reports that on 15 acres of land he raised 325 bushels of corn, 4,000 pounds of fodder, 165 bushels of potatoes, nine bales of cotton, with an av erage weight of 425 pounds, and plenty of vegetables. Under existing law3 a soldier who served in the Union army ninety days or more and who has reached the age of 62 years, is entitled to a pension of $12 a month; at the age of 70 years to $15 a month and at the age of 75 i a pension of 20 a month. After January 20, 1911, Pull man sleeping car rates through out the country will be $2 for a lower berth, and $1.60 for upper berths for a 12 hour ride. This decision was handed down Mon day by the interstate commerce commission. The travelling pub lie, it is estimated, will save $1, 500,000 annually by this decis ion.
