AN INVENTORY.
When Uncle Sam takes a census
it’s like a business man’s inventory.
Uncle Sam’s latest check up reveals
that since the pre-war year, 1913,
these things have come to pass:
Population has increased 14,000,000.
National income is $50,000,000,000,
an increase of $16,000,000,000.
National bank deposits are $17,000,-
000,000, in increase of $11,0000,000,-
000.
During this current • year ten new
records have been established. They
are: .
Largest pig iron production, largest
steel ingot production, largest crude
oil production, largest auto and truck
production, largest production of loco
motives, largest residential construc
tion, largest cotton consumption, larg
est volume of mail order sales, larg
est volume of retail sales, largest vol
! ume of railroad freight traffic.
The great misfortune of mankind i
is that only those out of office know j
how to solve great problems. Minne

Reasonable Doubt.
One afternon. a stranger debarked
from a train at a hustling western
town and headed up street. Finally
he met a man that looked like a na
tive.
“Pardon me,” said the new arrival,
“are you a resident of this town?”
“Yes, sir,” was the ready answer.
“Been here for something like fifty
years. What can I do for you?”
“I am looking for a criminal law
yer,” responded the stranger. “Have
you one here?”
“Well,” said the native, reflective
ly, “we think we have, but we <*£ft
prove it on him.”
