strictly southern variety.

who with his dog portrayed “Buster
and his dog “Tige.”
Second prize given by Mr. W. H.

All the costumes were splendid but
we feel that special mention should
be made of the following:

s Miss Emily Taylor as a Hiwawian

, and perfect in every detal and showed
a great deal of originality and
t thought and was a typical Hawaiian
i girl.
Next came the potato race!
At the last minute the girls who
, were to compete suffered a severe
t case of stage fright. Their places
were taken by three Carolina boys
5 who were on the program put on by
the Athletic Association. C. C. Ham

■ the potato race and was presented
. with prize given by Connell and John

One of the boys from the Univer
sity won the prize offered by Judge
Walter D. Siler, a box of candy.
Judging from the grin that spread
over his countenance upon its presen
tation, it was a most acceptable
prize!
All prizes were awarded by Super
intendent Thompson in his usual hap
py manner.
Following the awarding of prizes
the program put on by the Athletic
Association was given. We will not
attempt to describe this as we are
woefully ignorant of the vernacular
of the boxing and wrestling contin
gency.
Mrs. Shannonhouse, president of
the P. T. A., wishes to thank everyone
individually and collectively, who con
tributed in any way or manner,
aided, supported or assisted in help
ing to make the carnival the splendid
success it was. Especially the men
who gave the prizes, Mr. Perry who
loaned his weinie roaster. Miss Azile
Hill who prepared the perfectly delici
ous creamed chicken and coffee and
Henry K. Blair, who voluntarily ten
dered his services to our president on
Saturday morning in helping to ob
