Thursday, April 19, 1928 moncure news (Crowded out last week) Easter Sunday was an ideai day. The sun shone brightly and every thing was lovely, the weather was neither cold nor hot. The trees put ting on new leaves and spring flow ers are blooming everywhere, in ■which we see and think of the pow er of our Heavenly Father, who is the creator of us all and everything. A nice congregation gathered at the Methodist church at 11 o’clock to hear the Easter message preached by Rev. C. L. Lance. His message was appropriate indeed. Easter songs were sung by the choir, and we were favored by a solo by Sheriff S. W. Womble, and everyone cafuld feel the power of the Resurrection which means life and light to those who live right here in this world. Jesus said, “Because I live, ye shall live also.” Easter Monday was also a nice clay, but just a little cloudy. xMrs. Mary Barringer had an egg hunt for her large and nice class about ten o’clock. The little folks are always looking forward to the egg hunt on Easter with great pleasure as Mrs. Barringer gives them one every year. Mrs. W. W. Stedman who is teach er of the Intermediate class, took her class on a picnic at “Hollow Rock” on Mrs. Taylor’s farm on Deep River. All rode in cars to Mrs. Taylor’s home, then we hiked it carrying our iunches with us. The stroll through the woods, over the hills and down the valleys was enjoyed very much. Th,, daisies, violets, yellow' jasmines and many other flowrers were in bloom and everything w'as pretty in deed and pleasing to the eye, which added much to our stroll. After reaching thp rock, the class went 1 kodaking, pictures were taken stand ing on rocks in the river and other pictures were taken of the class on the “Hollow Rock” and other suitable places wherever we went. Dinner wa§ spread on the bank of the liver and everyone enjoyed it to the fullest extent. After which an ego- hunt was enjoyed by all. Then we hiked by Mrs. Taylor's home where we enjoyed a short stay with her, reaching Moncure about 3:30. Several from thp Baptist Sunday school. Miss Lillie Hackney and oth ers started out for “Hollow Rock” in cars, after going a mile they got out of gas and some got stuck. Two of the children got separted from the others and they spent much time in huntino- them. They never reach ed “Hollow Rock” but returned to Mrs. Taylor’s where they enjoyed a lunch and an egg hunt after an hour or two of anxiety. We were sorry indeed that they did not reach “Hollow Rock to enioy the picnic, but we were glad that Mr. .J. J. Hackney, Mr. W. F. Watson and Mr. William Strickland reached “Hollow j Rock” and enjoyed the picnic. The following college l students: Misses Annie Lambeth and Lucile Brady of Louisburg college, Misses Elizabeth Thomas and Mary Womble of N.C.C.W. and Messrs. Jennings Womble, Sam and Clarence Crutch field and Zeb Harrington and Salter Utley of Elon college, spent Easter holidays at home. I Mr. and Mrs. O. C. Stedman Moncure, N. C. COMPLIMENTS SHERIFF BLAIR In a recent article of the Sanford Express gave an interesting and de tailed account of how r Government Narcotic Agents got a tip of hun dreds of dollars worth of narcotics being shipped by mail to certain boot leggers at Sanford. It took some time and a lot of planning- and de vising to trap the offenders who were sharp and elusive. The writer of th P article closed by saying that when Uncle Sam once gets on the trail of law breakers he is “as re lentless as Sheriff Blair of Chatham county.” Chatham is as noted for rearing real men as it is for raising the lowly bunny. It seems however, that a majority of them cast their lots in larger centers of activity than Chatham has to effer. Fortunately there are a few exceptions and one of the outstanding ones is. our ef ficient Sheriff. More and more does he become the standard by which other Sheriffs are measured. Sheriff Blair well deserves the tri bute. He is a man of the highest integrity, indomitable determination rare energy and persistence. He or iginated from som p of Chatham’s best people and has spent his entire life here in various lines of activity and his integrity is unreproachable.
