Thatj although the; present situation of our Country, is such as to fill the minds of the People with disquietude and alarm, we have undiminished confidence in the principles of the Constitution ; and we believe that, upon their preservation and obser vance, in their spirit and letter, bur Union as a Na tion, and happiness as a People depend. 2. That the Government of the United States has no right to interfere with the domestic Institutions of the respective States ; they are for the People of the several States to regulate in such mode as to them may seem best ; and "that we have seen with great regret, the disposition manifested by our Nor thern brethen to interfere in the question of Slave ry, in which the South is so deeply concerned ; and Jeers and Soldiers, we regard the present War with Thome, as a grea calamity. For while we have to . deplore the loss of many a noble spirit, a laree na- W tionaldeb has accumulated, which may lead to di rect taxation, and? prove a burthen whj.ch must be borne for years to come. . 3. Resolved, That we view with serious alarm, the conduct of the President, in banging War upon the Country, in violation of that provision of the constitution, which gives Congress the exclusive right " to declare War." i 4. i: Resolved, That we do positively and emphati cally disclaim anut disavow any wish or desire on our part to acquire any foreign territory whatever, w.
