Napoleon was in exile on the island of St. Helena Booth adopted the name, chang ing it slightly for the sake nf u phony as representative of the similarity of the cases. Contemporaneous history and current tradition assert and presume that Booth was shot by Boston Corbitt on Garrett's farm in Virginia. According to Mr. Bates, who details the story as told by Booth, the man who was killed was a man by the name of Ruddy. Booth had been at Garreti's for about twenty four hours, but on the afternoon before the alleged capture he had been warned to leave by some confederate soldiers who promis ed to arrange for his escape later. Therefore at about 2 o'clock in the afternoon of the day before the killing of Ruddy he had returned to a spot some distance from Garrett's house and was still there in hiding when the Federal cavalry arriv- ; ed. Ruddy and Herold had been i in Bowling Green, Va., to secure ! a boot for Booth. Owing to the ! presence of the Federal soldiers ; they were, compelled to travel ivery slowly and secretly and their return was long delayed. It now seems a settled fact that David E. George and John Wiikes Booth are one and the same George died in this city on January 15th last, and the small amount of excitement was occasioned by a report that he had confessed his identity to Mrs. Harper of this place, on a certain occasion three years be fore at El Reno, and thousands of neonle viewed the remains at1 naturally selected the Benniman's morgue; many of j insolated spot in the state warehouses by the different writers. In this effort Herold was captured and executed and Ruddy was killed. From his hidling place Booth was afterward taken by Confed erate friends and his disguise was that of an old colored man moving. He made his way to friends in central Kentucky where he recuperated strength and proceeded on his way to the Indian Territory, following the course of the Arkansas river from a point near where it emp ties into the Mississippi. From here he drifted into Texas and most may motto be if them at that time ey pressing the oeiier tnat tne body was none other than that of Booth. Corroboration now comes from F. L. Bate3 of Memphis. Tenn , who is now here, and granted an interview with a reportei this morniDg. Mr, Bates arrived in Enid, Friday evening. The story he tells is a revelation of historic facts which set aside many well accepted and time honored theories and statements, Mr. Bates was for many years the confidential lawyer of Booth, From him he has the complete story of the duplicity of men high in official life, the names of the chief conspirators and the escape of the assassin. Tnese confidential facts were, of course given Mr. Bates under stress. According to his report, Booth located at Gien Rose Mills, Tex., about five years after the assas inatinn, and purchased a stock ot tobacco and whiskey from a man named Synder. Shortly Mr. Bates is here for the pur pose of delivering a lecture the title which is. "Lecture of F. L. Bates as to the Assassination of President Abraham Lincoln and the Escape of John Wilkes Booth." In his lecture Mr. Bates will deal with the political condition which lead up to the assassina tion of the president and will show the parts played in the tragedy by all of the characters familar in history and several vvho are not named as having any knowledge of the conspiracy, but who as a matter of fact were the chief conspirators. It is safe to presume that his dis closures will be more or less sensational in as much as they overthrow popular teachings and place popular heroes in an al together different light. But in b lici of the evidence he brings to band n cannot be doubted that he is in full possession of fac?s He hns had picture of th man ''blow and steady" rather a dangerous followed too literally. "Weli, how's Tom getting on?' asked a friend, addressing Tom's employer. ua, an ngni, x guess, an swered the employer, without enthusiasm. "What? Isn't he sober? Isn't he steady?" ags.in asked the friend anxiously. "Steady!'' blurted the employ er. 'That's it. Indeed he is steady. If he was any steadier he wouldn't move at all!" On the whole a motto written by Thomas A. Ediso on his phonograph is more practical: "All things come to thbso who hust!e while thev wait." For Bronchitis The division of power was wise and beneficial. Time, study and experience approve it, and we should not attempt iQ an uncon stitutional way tho destructure of our government If these two great powers of police and commerce are separate and independent and the power of the State sovereign, where is the authority for saying that Con gress can invade and impair that power entire and independent in the State. The right and power of both the State and the nation must be respected and upheld.' An Editor's Appeal, My friend, help the editor in his wild-eyed search for news. When your friends come to see you, if you are not ashamed of it, tell him; when your wife gives a tea party if you have recovered from th? t ff cts cf the gossiy, drop it with tbn m when a baby arrives fill you pockets with cigars and call, if .you go to a party steal some of the good tamgs, and leaye em with the item in our san.t-uo. If your wife licks you coaie in and let us see your scars and tender sym pathy through the paper; if your mother-in-law has died don't be oasniui aoout it; give in ail the commonplace news. In short, whatcve mikes yoa feel proud. sad, ionejuitj or 'ad submit it to our 24 karat wisdom and see our matted locks part and stand on end with gratitude which will pour from the dew besprinkled earth. There is neither rank nor station nor prerogative in the republic of the grave. At this fatal threshold the philosopher ceases to be wise, and tne song of the poet is silent. Dives relinquishes his millions, and Lazarus his rags. The poor man is as rich as the richest, and the rich wan is poor as tne pauper. The creditor loses his usury and the debtor is acquitted of his obligation. There the proud man surrenders his dignities, the politician his honor, the worlding his pleas ures; the invalid need3 no physician, and the laborer rests from his unrequited toil. Here at last is nature;s final decree in equity, The wrongs of time are redressed, injustice is expiated, the irony of fate is refuted, the unequal distribution of wealth, honor, capacity, pleasure and opportunity, which makes life so cruel and inexplicable a tragedy, ceases in the realm of death.
