O«or- iela and Florida will spend HMUksKiTing Day on their own . tarau and under the roofs of their own homes, who have been enabled to do so by the refinanc ing program of the Federal Land Bank ot Columbia, according to Julian H. Scarborough, general agent of the Farm Credit Admin istration of Columbia. "Two years ago,” said Mr. Scarborough, "these farmers faced what appeared to them to J e a hopeless situation. Loss of ^Ir farms, on which some of them had lived their whole lives, seemed inevitable. They appeared to be helpless victims of an economic depression un paralleled in the history of this country and from which the farmers have been among the greatest sufferers. "Over 50,000 farmers in the four states comprising this dis trict have secured loans from the Federal Land Bank of Columbia and the Land Bank Commission- since June 1, 1933, totaling ^fer ?80.000,000. They used S3 cents out of every dollar they borrowed to repay old creditors. In many cases these creditors WEAK AND SKINNY MEN, WOMEN AND CHILDREN WCM ^MiriBg for poyatent and tkioatoniBg foraelosuro. In thoao ,eaMa tho loans provldsd ftamert with means to repay onoh credi tors and to avoid foreclosure. "The bank not only made new loans to farmers to enable them to refinance their debts at a low er rate of interest on terms ex tending over a long period of years but also extended past due debts to it to thousands of them who were unable to meet their payments, and reduced rates of interest on mortgages already held to 4 1-2 per cent per an num for a 5-year period ending July 11. 1938. “The loans have been made in snch manner as to make it pos sible for them to be repaid out of the products of the mortgaged property. With the reduction of interest rate we feel that if the bank participates fairly in all marketable crops grown on lands mortgaged to the bank, the farm er-borrower can make progress in retiring his debt and In sav ing his farm and home. "The situation confronting the farmer-borrower this Thanksgiv ing Day is quite different from that which confronted him two years ago. Then he could see no chance of working out from und er his debts. His creditors were pushing him and in many in stances threatening foreclosure. Today his debts have been refi nanced over a long period of years and on terms which he can meet. To meet them will re quire, it is true, hard work on his part and the application of business principles to his farm ing but he will not object to this. "Surely Thanksgiving Day this year will be a day of thanks giving for the farmers.” QlF.SnO.N .AND .A.VSWER ‘2u‘ ia tMteleM tablets. of firm healtliy flesh instead of Wart oeranr beneo I Now vtsor. vim ood oDorcy inoteod of tired UotioMnett I Stoody, ^nioi iierree I That is what thousands ex poepW art retting thiooffh seiontists' latest dis^oery—the Vitamins of Cod Liver Oil eonoeatratcd in litUo soffar coated tablets without any of its horrid, fishy taste or smell. Question: Can a young calf be cured ot the scours? -Answer: The common scours, or indigestion, is one of the most frequent ailments ot a young calf and can be cured by isolating the animal and reduc ing the milk ration at least one- half. From one to three table- spoonfuls of castor oil mixed in a pint of fresh milk should then be given the animal. After the oil has acted, give a teaspoonful of a mixture composed of one part salol and two parts of sub nitrate of bismuth or bicarbon ate of soda. This can be repeated at six hour intervals until the diarrhea is stopped. This cure is for common scours. If the ani mal has white scours the animal should he isolated and'a veteri narian consulted at once. M oney Saved Is Money Made!
