The funeral service was held at Still Creek church In Meck lenburg county Saturday after noon at three o’clock. u. S. CONTRACT FOR REFRIGERATORS IS GIVEN KELVINATOR Of interest to American house wives who take much time in purchasing their household ap pliances and other articles tor use around the home, is the fact that the United States govern ment itself is somewhat of an exacting shopper. Calling for bids from which it was to make blanket awards for 1935 purchases of electric refri gerators by various federal de partments, the government this year imposed a set of require ments that even the most dis cerning and mechanical minded housewife would rarely think of when she went shopping tor a refrigeratbr. According to information re ceived by Kelvinator Corpora tion, who was given fourteen awards out of a total of fifteen refrigerator models on wheih it submitted bids, the government awards contracts on the basis of overall operating cost and ef ficiency over a ten-year period. Taken into consideration were initial cost, cost of operation, ef ficiency of refrigeration and ice freezing under extreme heat con ditions, cniTPiit consumption and cost of replacement parts. Five porcelain finished Kelvi- rator models which were approv ed for marine use bad to qualify under even stricter conditions, among which was the ability to operate during a rolling and pitching test during which time the refrigerator was standing at various angles as sharp as 4 0 degrees from the vertical. The government’s electric re frigerator requirements were much stricter this year and this tightening of federal require ments reflects, according to Kel vinator, a general insistence on the part of the public in general on higher quality and greater value in electric refrigeration products. Ford Sabi Will ^ t^fad of April April 19.—Figures re- ieased .tqdajr bjr thp Ford Motor Co. teTid. to prove ^at the pro- jeetloii of the founder of the company made late last year— 1,090,000 cars and trucks in 19 3S—-wasn’t a wild guess oil his part. Providing demand holds ...up as anticipated, it is expected at Dearborn that the goal will be reached as predicted. This anticipation is based on fHurns made by W. C. Cowling, general sales manager, which show that in the first quarter of this year and up to April 10, Ford sales had totaled 334,437 cars and trucks. By the end of the month. Dearborn does not hesitate to say, the company will have produced better than 500,- 000—four months’ production. This does not include the 36,000-odd 1935 Ford units pro duced during November and De cember 1934. The completion of the 500,- 000th Ford V-8 unit marked the half-way point in the Ford pro gram for the year, based upon Henry Ford’s announcement last December of his plans to build ‘‘one million cars 6r better” in 1935. Ford production for the first four months through April 30 is expected, according to present schedules, to approximate 550,- 000 units. First quarter produc tion totalled 386,326 units and the schedule for .April calls for 165,000 more. N. C.
