Gritting re turned Friday from Charlotte, where Mr. Griffing attended a meeting of managers of the J. C. Penney Co. stores in this section of the country. -Mr. Griffing re ports one of the most enthusia.s- tic conventions he ever attended, with prospects unusually bright for summer and fall trading. News from AVelch, W. Va., relative to the illness of Mr. Robert Reeves, son of Mrs. Rosa Reeves, of this city, is to the ef fect’that his condition is gradu ally ^growing worse with only slight hope for his recovery. His mother is at his bedside, having left her home here more than a week ago. Mr. and Mrs. Fred Gaither have returned to their home near the city after visiting in Greens boro and Thomasville over the I week-end. Mrs. Gaither attended (commencement exercises at Greensboro College Saturday and I was re-elected assistant treasur- •er of the alumni association.
