Miss Pansy Smithey, student nurse at the Davis Hospital, Statesville, is spending a week’s vacation at her home near Wil kesboro. Mrs. Ralph Bowman under went an operation at The Wilkes Hospital yesterday. Her condi tion this morning was consider- ,ed favorable. DRIVER MUST SERVE EIGHT-MONTH TERM High Point, June 10.—Joe Brown, driver of an automobile which struck and injured Clay- Brown as he was walking on the sidewalk near the Duke Power Company, was sentenced to serve a total of eight months on the county roads for driving while intoxicaied and probable cause was found in the charge of hit- and-run when he was arraigned in municipal court before Judge Lewis E. Teague today. Amends Kidnap Law Washington, June 10. — An amendment to the Lindbergh kidnap law to make persons han dling ransom money “accessories after the fact’’ was passed today by tbe Senate and sent to the House. Attorney Oeneral Cummings in recommending the amendment said “the present law was in adequate to roach persons hand ling ransom money.’’ The bill, he said, would “make it a crime to receive, possess or dispose of the ransom money.” The amendment would subject those handling ransom money to a possible fine of JIO.OOO or im prisonment up to 10 years or both. haffey were appointed to keep flowers in the church the follow ing month.
