C. HolcOmh^ were hosts at a dinner party Wed nesday evening at their home on F Street having all their children, with their families, together in a family reunion. A*^ tempting three course dinner was served at six o’clock with covers laid for seventeen. Those present were Mr. and Mrs. Wade Holcomb, of Hazel- hurst, Ga., Mr. and Mrs. Ed Fowler and son. Jimmie, of Flush ing, N. Y., and Mr. and Mrs. Mar shall Holcomb and i^our children, Margaret, Mary Louise, Phillip W’ade and Dixie Anna, Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Holcomb and two chil dren, Hugh Jr., and Sarah, all of Elkin. Mr. and Mrs. Wade Holcomb came in Tuesday for a visit of several days. Mrs. Fowler and Jimmie have been in for six weeks visiting here and at States ville and Mr. Fowler for two weeks. In Meeting Monday Afternoon The first meeting for the new club year of the Wilkes Valley Guards Chapter of the United Daughters of the Confederacy was held Monday afternoon with Mrs. John Tevepaugh and Miss Mae Foster at their home on Kensing ton Drive. Mrs. Floyd Jennings, the president was in charge with a number of matters coming up for discussion. The main item of business was naming delegates to the 39th annual convention of the North Carolina division of the United Daughters of the Confed eracy, which will be held in Win ston-Salem this year, opening Tuesday night, October 15, and w^ given by Mrs, W. To close the afternoon the hos tess served delicious refreshments to the group. Several visitors were present. -'f ' ■ » ■ Mrs. Hoyle Hutchens Honored Two Brides To honor two recent brides. Mrs. C. A. Ritchie and Mrs. Charles Sprinkle, Mrs. Hoyle Hutcheons entertained informally at a small part at her home on E Street Ss^turday .^ten^n. Mrs. Ritchie prior to her nuptials was Miss Patty Hurley, of Biscoe, her husband being a former member of the North Wilkesboro high school faculty, but is now conr nected with the C. C. Camp herb. Mrs. Sprinkle, a former teacher in the city school, was before her marriage. Miss Edith Williams, of York, S. C. She and Mr. Sprink le are living at Winston-Salem but were guests of the Hutchens during the week-end. The living room tastefully deco rated in a profusion of cut flow ers made a colorful background for the guests who spent the time in knitting and other fascinating handwork. Little Margaret Anne Hutchens, daughter of Mrs. Hutchens, who was a miniature bride in Mrs. Sprinkle’s wedding, wearing the same dress presented lovely remembrances to the two honorees. Mrs. Tal Barnes, who is leaving this week for Florida, was also given a remembrance. Other tokens of the occasion for the brides was a book of recipes in which each one of the guests present wrote their favorite reci pe. At the close of the afternoon dainty refreshments in two cours es were served by Mrs. Hutchens. Mr*. Taylor and Mni. 1. Casey occupied the chair during the business period at which toe good reports of the work were heard. The program was given by members of Mrs. J. I. Myers Cir cle, those having parts were Mrs. A. C. Dennis, Mrs. J. N. Shock- ey and Mrs. ’Tip McNeil. The topic for study was ‘‘Lifting the Banner Through Stewardship” and Dr. John R. Jester, who is leading a series of evangelistic services at the church, made an inspiring talk on “Stewardship.” Special music was a duet “Liv ing for Jesus”, sang by Rev and Mrs. Eugene Olive. N. W. Methodist Auxiliary In Meeting Tuesday P. M. With Mrs. W. P. Horton presid ing the September meeting of the North Wilkesboro Methodist Aux iliary was held Tuesday after noon at the church, with twenty- six members being present. The meeting opened with Mrs. A. E. Spainhower leading the devotion al period and all singing hymn “The Morning Light is Beaming.” For the program, which was ar ranged by Miss Mamie Sockwell, a playlet was given by Miss Sockwell and Mrs. John Tull dis cussing the work in Korea, es pecially in public health. Mrs. J. D. Shafer gave items from the Missionary Bulletin.
