FINLEY Finley Is Young Business Leader Also Chairman of Wilkes County Board Of Commissioners R. G. Finley, a member of one of Wilkes county’s oldest families, was born and reared in North Wllkesboro, being the youngest son of J. E. Finley, deceased, who was the founder of and first president of the Bank of North Wllkesboro, North Wilkesboro’s oldest bank and one of the strong est financial institutions of its kind in this section of North Car olina. Mr. Finley received his high school education in local institu tions, had one year at Fishburne Military School at Waynesboro, Va., and later completed four years at Davidson College, gradu ating with a B. A. Degree. After finishing college he returned to North Wllkesboro where he en tered into the grist mill manu facturing business, having pur chased an interest and became the chief executive of the New Wil liams Mill company, which he operated until the World War started. He joined the Ibiited States Army end was mustered into service at Camp Wadsworth, Spartanburg, S. C. He w-as soon afterwards sent to France with the American Expeditionary Forc es and served continually until the end of the war. Its products are no'vi^ jlng shipped into several for eign countries and has, of course, a very large clientele in the United States. Mr, Finley is f. hresiilent of this splendid manu facturing concern. He is also a director at this time in the Bank of North Wil- kesboro and has been since 1933; a director in the North Wilkes- boro Building & Loan associa tion; a director and vice presi dent of the North Wllkesboro In surance Agency; a former direc tor in the Forest Furniture com pany and is a member of the Board of Trustees of the Wilkes Hospital, Inc., and at this time is chairman of the county board of commissioners for Wilkes county. His record as county chairman is outstanding for the many fine ac complishments perfected during his administration. Mr. Finley was also one of the organizers of the old Wilkes Commercial club which in its dsv was one of the best commercial organizations in the western part of North Caro lina. He also had the pleasure of serving on the City board of com missioners. It can truly he said that Mr. Finley has proven himself to be an illustrious son of an illustrious sire, who did so much for North Wllkesboro and Wilkes county. He ig considered one of, if not the best, young business men in the city and county and his keen sense of Justice and faplghted- ness makes him a valuable mem ber of the board of directors of the several institutions he rep resents. The North Wllkesboro Building & Loan association is to be congratulated in having as one of its directors a man of Mr. Fin ley’s ability. Mr. Finley is a mem ber of the Presbyterian church, a . lover of home and community and can always be found readv and willing to sponsor not only with his time but with his means, any worthy project in promoting and building for the future a better town and county. Since the hrrse went out of business he seems to have taken his “horse sense’’ with him.
