The Parent - Teacher .\sso>:i- aHon of Thr 'u elementary school, located near r-'.-ket postofftee. met for its fiisi regular monthly meeting at the school building, Tuesday evening, October lu. A short devo‘.ion-’l program was given by the seventh grade. Spe cial music was given by Mlssts Imogene Williams and Lillian Keys. After the devotional the a3s'- ciatlon was privileged to have a very interesting and distinguish ed visitor, S. C. Bggers, from Boone. He made a very inspiring speech upon the influence of the parent and teacher on the child. Union elementary school Is one of the largest elementary schools in Wilkes county, with an enroll ment of two-hundred twenty-five. With this number of pupils there is a great need for a modem building. The present structure Is a frame building and In very bad condition. The heating is very in adequate, and the lighting in most of the rooms is very poor. No child can be expected to do efficient work under a situation in which he is uncomfortable, too cold, and not able to see. Tbls is also Injurious to the child’s health. Working under such handicaps should be an Incentive by which the patrons of the school will be led to realize the needs and pro vide them in order that their chBd will have a modern and comfortable situation in which to get an education. The second Tuesday In each month during the school year was set as the regular meeting time for the association. We would like to have all the patrons out for 1 n weather road, about 1 1-2 miles from the new Roar- River hardsurface iway, and about six from North Wilkes boro.
