G. Finley Saturday after noon entertaining at the attrac tive new country clubhouse in Blowing Rock. The guests for five tables of bridge motored over to begin play at 3 o’clock, and in the game Mrs. J. A. Rous seau won top score prize, Mrs. A. C. Chamberlain low score award, while the prize for honors went I to Mrs. C. D. Coffey, Jr. The ; hostess served tempting refresh ments. The clubhouse was deco rated with beautiful dahlias in mixed colors, which harmonized i with the colors of w-alls I chairs. I tor the group. Two tables were made up for bridge end one'for Brummie In an attractive setting of cut flowers of various hues. Mrs. Tom Dula won the prize for the highest number of points and Mrs. C. J. Swofford for low score. Mrs. Bill Turner, of Winston-Salem, sister of Miss Harris and a guest in the home, won the prize in rummie. A salad course followed by sweets was served at the conclu sion of pl.-y. Other visitor,= of the club were Misses Inez McNeil, Nllta Sebastian, Ruth Shatley. Gardner, the president, presiding the Septem ber meeting of the Woman’s So ciety of Christian Service of the North Wilkesboro Methodist church, was held at the church Tuesday afternoon. Three im portant meetings for the next few weeks were announced by Mrs. Gardner, the first one being the Study Leaders meeting to be held at the Broad Street church in Statesville, Tuesdcy. September 23 beginning at nine o'clock in the morning and continuing un til one o’clock. Miss Ruth Wheaton, of New York city, and •a field secretary of the society, is to be one of the speakers at this meeting. Any members of thft socif^ty intprested in poing will please call Mrs. Gardner. The Elkin zone meeting will be held at Sparta on Wednesday. October the first, ami the Week of Prayer is to bi* observed the last week in October. The program was given by the Franklin circle with Mrs. Jack Brame. the chairman, in charge. Fashion Show to Be Given At Woman’s Clubhouse Plans are going forward for the Fashion Show that the Civic and Social club, a department of the North Wilkesboro Woman’s club, Ls sponsoring at the Woman’s clubhouse on Trogdon street, Thursday evening, September 25. beginning at 8 o’clock- A most interesting evening^ is being planned for all those who at tend, with Mrs. R- G. Finley act ing as master of ceremonies and her dance pupils to give some .song and dance numbers. Chil dren’s clothes will be modeled by these pupils and the club mem- bess will show wearing apparel for the adults, all clothing shown to be furnished by S'painhour s and Belk’s stores and the Jean Shoppe. To open the meeting Mrs. — ■ Stokes led the devotional period > of the deceased, after which Miss Frank Somer.s,' the vice-president, presided for the usual business session, during which time plans were made to do some work in the personage study. Twelve members were present and were served refresh ments during the social hour. Mr. and Mrs. William T. Long Hosts at Lawn Party Mr. William T. Long, superin tendent of the Wilkesboro school, and Mr.s. Long were hosts at a delightful lawn prrty at their home in Wilkestoro Thursday evening for the parents and teach ers of the school. At the begin ning of the evening the teachers were informally introduced to the parents of the school, after which a short musical program was ren dered as follows; Mrs. George Parlier nlayed several piano num ber.-, Mrs. Maude Williams gave a vocal solo, and Mrs. McCanless. the band director, played some violin numbers. During the ev ening punch and cookies were served to the guests which num bered rround 300. The pall bearers were Guy Pre vette, Robert Prevette, General Johnson, Clark Mayberry, I.onnie Harris and Quince Jarvis. He professed a hope in Christ ten years ago and lived a chris- tlon life.—Reported.
