Fletcher Honored Tuesday On 83rd Birthday V ? 1 ■» The family of Rev. James F. Fletcher gathered at the home of his daughter. Mrs. W. R. Ab sher, where he is spending the winter, on Tuesday, November 11, to celebrate his 83rd birth day anniversary. The veteran minister who re tired in January last year after several decades of outstanding service in North Carolina and ■Virginia, was overjoyed with the surprise party given by his fam ily. who took time off from Im portant duties to honor him on his birthday anniversary. The occasion was planned by Mrs. Absher and was excellently car ried out. Those present were Major A. L. Fletcher and wife, Mr. and A. J. Fletcher and daughter, Betty Ivou. of Raleigh; Mr- and Mrs. Herbert Fletcher, of High Point; Mrs. Eugene Beam, of Kinston; Mrs. J. P- Bingham, of I.iexington; Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Fletcher, of Versailles, Mo.; James Daniels and son, 'William, of Lexlnfeton, and near relatives who live here. Rev. Mr. Fletcher received many gifts and well wishes, in cluding greetings from Senator Joslah W. Bailey and Represen tative R. E- Doughton. The camera probably can’t tell the difference and the chances are that the actors can’t, either, but just the same they went all out on realism' over at the Ed ward Small lot where Ilona Massey, George Brent and Basil Rathhone were appearing in a spy tale called, “International La dy," which starts a run at the Liberty Theatre on Monday and Tuesday. For instance, on a certain day on the set, there was Miss Mas sey dodging pursuers all around a combination music shop spy center in Lisbon. It was pretty atmospheric, but even so it look ed merely like one of Holly wood’s best samples of set build ing. Director Tim Whelan and Ken Walton, who has been a Holly wood property man since Colleen Moore was a big name, felt a lit tle hurt at the notice it was just another set.
