This guide contained an outline tor the necessary food and teed for a fajnily of five and stated that it would like to have ell the for mers who thought they coul^J produce as much as 75 per cent of the food and feed on the farm enter the contest. 1100 cards were returned to the county ag ent’s office stating that they de- aired to particlpa'e in the pro gram. It is true that the weatherman was against us in that we had u very irregular season which made it hard 'o accomplish our desires. However when the score cards were mailed the first of January, some 500 were returned and grided. Out of the 400 ther- were 19S who Qualified for a cer tiftcatc, according to tbs' rules sc' up. The.-e is no doubt but whot . larger number of farmers wei-c stimulated by this contest and did a lo! toward reaching their goils but fell short due to reason.- ov er which they had no control. Rev. T. Sloane Guy, Jr., pastor of Wilkesboro Baptist church, or ganized the chorus and will direct the presentation as a cooperative move on the part of the churches of the two towns in observance of Elaster. It is expected to be the m-ost comprehensive musical pje- sentation ever given here and a ca pacity audience is anticipated. For the oratorio William E. Shields, of Winston-Salem, will be tenor soloist. He is a graduate of Wake Forest College and a stndent of Bowman Gray school of medi cine of Wake Forest at Winston- Salem.
