Bumgarner, navy veteran who enlisted over four years ago, is with the Pacific fleet, according to letters receiv ed 'by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. G. A. Bumgarner, of Wilkesboro route one. Deloss was at Pearl Harbor at the time of the attack by the Japs and has been In other engtagements. He is getting along fine and sends greeting.s to all his friends. Pvt. Reynolds Transferred Pvt. Phil Reynolds has been transferred from Moody Pipld, Ga., to Maxwell F'ield, Ala. While there he is to attend school for 90 days, after which he will re turn to Moxwell Field. V March 1 Deadline Merit System Exam Durham.-—It was announced today by the Merit S.vstem Office that March 1 has been set as the closing date for the receipt of ap plies'tions for professional posi tions with the State Board of Charities and Public Welfare and the County Welfrre Departments. All mailed applications must be postmarked by Mrrch 1 in order to be considered. All persons whose applications have been accepted by the closing date will be notified as soon as possible of the exiict time and place of the examinrtion. March 1.3 has been chosen as the date for the examinations. I Examinations will be given for the following positions: County Superintendent Series, Including the positions of County Superin tendent of Public Welfare III. County Superintendent of Public Weltore II and County Superin tendent of Public Welf-re I; Child Welfare Series, including the po sitions of Child Welfare Case Worker, Child Welfare Case Worker and Supervisor, and Child Welfare Case Consultant; and County Welfiare Workers Series, including the positions of.Crso Work Aide, Case Worker, and Case Work Supervisor.
