At the same time, Feb ruary 25, 1941, Lt. John L. Wells was commissioned a second Heu- tenent and on April 14, 1942, was promoted to first Iieuten,'*nt. He gained military experience with the National Guard company here before it was mobilized. The third ranking commission ed officer of the State Guard com pany here is 2nd Lt. John V. Wal lace, who was commissioned on July 15, 1942. North Wllkesboro and Wilkes county government units helped make the company here possible by furnishing funds to buy sup plies and equipment, each having donated twice, and the state fur nished c specified sum. The first mobilization of the State Guard company here for service was in April, 1942, when the company was assigned to for est fire duty in the vicinity of Buffalo Cove in Caldwell county. The men served without fear of danger end completed their mis- SlOB. In July, 1942. Captain Pearson served as military aide to Gover nor Blood,- of New Hampehire. during the National Covemors convention at Grove Park Inr in Asheville.
