Miss Kiter Bower DiedOnFriday Funeral and Burial Services Conducted Sunday Af ternoon In Wilkesboro Miss Katherine Finley, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. Gordon Fin ley, will leave Wednesday to re- Miss Kiter Bower, o«ie of the most highly- esteemed^ and best loved ladies of Wilkusboro, died Friday morning about four o’clock at the home of her niece, Mrs. Bon Perkins, and Mr. Perkins. Miss Kiter, as she was familiarly known to hundreds of her friends, had been in very feeble health for the past several years, but cu Thursday morning she suffered a severe stroke of paralysis and death followed only a few hours later. Mias Kiter was born at Trade Tenn., the Son -of David and Re becca Horton Bower. When only on infant, her parents moved from Tennessee to the beautiful Happy Valley section of Caldwell coun ty. where she lived for a number of years, later going to Lenoir and making her home there with her Miss brother, the late Congressman Horton Bower, one of the best know'n cizitens of this section of North Carolina during the era in wh'jh he lived. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde McNeill, of Millers Creek, announce the birth of a daughter, Marolyn Kay, at the Wilkes hospital on Thursday. Birth was by Caesarten operation. However. Mrs. McNeill is recover ing splendidly. Misses Grace Frank Kilby, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. F. Kilby, and Miss Billie Barnes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Tal Barnes, visited homefolk in the with her sister, the late Mrs. W. C. Winkler, and Mr. Winkler. She was a resident of Wilkesboro for at.out 30 years. In early life. Miss Kiter joined the Methodist church, and as long as she was able to do so, she re mained active in church work, at tending Sunday school, church services, and missionary meetings w'ith regularity. She was a de vout Christian, and ' every where she went she spread sun shine and Joy. Phillips, left today for Salem College in Win ston-Salem. Miss Phillips, who for the past two years had attend ed Woman’s College in Greens boro. will be a junior there this year. Misses Beth Jones and Mildred Kilby entered Mars Hill College last week to take a religious course preparathry to entering the ‘The KJter name and is known as Bower” circle. Miss Kiter was the last survivor of her immediate family, and nearest relatives who survive her are two nephews, David Bower, of Lenoir, and John C. Winkler, of Wyco, W. Va.. who was unable to attend the burial rites on account of illness, and the following nieces; Mrs. Carson Parlier, of Charlotte: Mrs. William Miller, of Hickory; Mrs. Bon Perkins, of Wllkesboro; Mrs. Ray Kennedy, of Wilkesboro and Wilmington. The funeral service for Miss Kiter was held yesterday after noon at the Wllkesboro Methodist church with the pastor. Rev. Fred H. Shinn, in charge, assisted by Rev. Howard J. Ford, pastor of the Wilkesboro Baptist church. Interment followed later in the afternoon In the Horton cemetery Lt.
