2:00 p. m. The devotional was
led by the president, Mrs. Bessie
Turner. The business was brief
ly discussed. Mrs. Bessie Den
ny and Mrs. Prances Witherspoon
were joint hostess and served a
very tempting chicken supper.
The Pastor's Aid Circle met
with Mrs. Isabelle Brown Sunday
afternoon at 5 p. m. Mrs. A.
Thomas discussed a lesson taken
from the book called ‘‘The Open
Window.” The president was in
charge of the biisir.ess. All mem
bers were present except two.

10-day furlough at home.
Cpl. Jethro Satterwhite, of
Camp Forrest, Tenn., has been
discharged from service. He re
ceived an honorable discharge and
is now working on a war Job in

for John H. Parsons, Ckirlon and
Wallace Howell, who entered the
navy.
Mrs. Gladys Barnes Parsons, of
Hickory, formerly of Taylorsville,
wa.s buried at Thankful church,
Boomer. Wednesday. Surviving
ire her husband, Mr. Grover Par-
son,s, three sons and six daugh
ters. She was a devoted wife and
mother and was faithful until
death.
Mr, Julius Reddicts and Miss
Mary Barker were married on
Sunday. Sept. 5, 1943, at York,
S. C. Mr. Reddicts is the son of
Mr. and Mrs. Robert Reddicts. of
Cairo. Mrs. Reddicts is the
daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Lenzie
Barker, of North Wilkesboro. On
Tueday. Sept. 7. they were shower
ed at the home of Mr. amd Mrs.
Archie Smith. The shower wat
•riven by Mrs. Marie Smith. Miss
Panljne Wilborn. and Miss Kitty
Barber. Four tables of bridge
were played. After the games
were over a delicious course was
served. Everyone enjoyed the oc
casion. Mr. and Mrs. Reddicts re
ceived lots of nice gifts. The bride

for awhile.
Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Gwyn, of
Honda, celebrated their 42nd wed
ding anniversary Saturday, Sept.
11th, by taking a most enjoyable
trin to the Carolina Beach, at
Wilmington.
The Harris Hill. Jr.. Goodwill
club held its last meeting for the
duration with Miss Elizabeth Red-
mon. The devotional exercise was
led by Miss Redmon. A trio and
reading was enjoyed by the mem- j
bers. The trio consisted of Misses

was by Mr. Loander Harris, advi
sor. The program was dedicated
to the members who are leaving
for the armed servlee and college.
