Cburch while amongst the visitors Mrs. Paul Green and Miss Sallle Out law were the winners. In rook Mrs. A. R. Gray, Sr., and Miss Selma Oxford received awards for high and second high scores. Sans Souci Club Met With Miss Harris Miss Zelle Harris was hostess to the members of the Sans Souci club at her home at Roaring River Thursday evening and had as guests besides club members, her sister. Miss Hazel Harris, and Miss Ruby Dockery. High and second high score prizes were won by Mrs. J. S. Zimmerman and Mrs. Jack Swoftord. Refreshments were served at the beginning of play. Fourteen girls came to cele brate the occasion with Peggy and enjoyed a series of Indoor gamee after which they were serv ed Ice cream and cake. Tho birth day cake, which was green, was topped trtth tiny yellow candlea, and the guests were presented with Easter favors. The honorce received lots of gifts, and to Mar gie Newton, who was also cele brating her birthday, Mrs. Har ris presented a gift. Guests other than the young girls were Mrs. W. E. Gaither, grandmother of Peggy, and Mrs. L. B. Bohbdtt and daughter, Pia- trlcla Ann, of Greensboro, and Mrs. W. K. Newton, Mrs. Bobbitt and Mrs. Newton being aunts of the honoree. Girl Scout Council Met Monday Evening The Girl Scout Council of the Wilkesboros held its regular monthly meeting on Monday af ternoon in the Scout Office at the City Hall, with Mrs. T. A. Finley, the commissioner, presiding. A general discussion of the work was engaged in, and a nominat ing committee composed of Mrs. H. B. Smith, Mrs. W. K. Sturdi vant, and Mrs. R. T. McNiel was appointed by Mrs. Finley. It is hoped the the Scout cookies will soon be available for sale by the Girl Scouts. Costner-Tedder Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Costner, of Pores Knob, route 1, announce the Harriage of their daughter, Thieda Margaret, to Pvt. Daniel C. Ted der, son of Mr. and Mrs. R. J. Ted der, also of Pores Knob. ITie wedding was solemnized in the Baptist parsonage in Paris, Tenn., on Saturday afternoon, the 25th of March, 1944, at 6 o’clock. Rev. H. H. Stembridge, Jr., offi dated, using the impressive ring ceremony. The bride was attractively at tired in a suit of light blue wool, with which she used navy blue ac cessories. Her corsage was of pink carnations. After spending two weeks with her husband. Mrs. Tedder has re turned to make her home with her parents at present. Pvt. Tedder is in the U. S. army and is stationed at the Barrage Balloon Training Center, Camp Tyson, Tennessee. LADIES ItnSSION— The Ladies Mission met Thurs day afternoon with Mrs. Katy Denny. The president, Mrs. B. Turner, was in charge and read a very interesting scripture lesson. After a very brief discussion the monthly prayer meeting was held. FIRST BAPTIST CHURCH— The service at the First Bap tist church Sunday, April 9, began Sunday morning at 5:45 with Sunrise'praise service. At 9:45 Sunday school was conducted. Mr. Harrison Glenn is superintendent. At 11 o’clock, Rev. A. A. Hartley, of Smlthfleld, used the subject: “He Is Risen As He Said” for the Easter sermon. Easter Sunday is always very sacred to Christians and a very large number was present. Rev. Hartley also had charge of the evening service. A man called on the editor of a local paper and announced that his uncle had been taking the paper for 55 years. Editor—That’s fine. I hope he continues to do so. Man—Oh, ye.s, he will. I want to tell you about him. He has al ways been a model of propriety. He has never touched liquor or to bacco. He has never been mixe;l up with women. He indulges in no vices and no excesses. And to morrow he will celebrate his 89th birthday. PAS'l'ORS AID OIROLE>— The Pastors Aid Circle held Its regular monthly meeting Sunday afternoon at 6:00 p. m. with Mrs. Katherine Denny . The Bible les son was given by Mrs. Thomas. The president. Mrs. Harris, pre sided and the business discussion was very lengthy. At the close of the meeting the hostess served light refreshments. NEWS OF CAIRO— The Missionary Circle of Da mascus Baptist church met in the home of Mrs. Annie Wilborn Fri day evening with the president, Mrs. Lena Hayes, in charge. The scripture lesson was read by Mrs. Sarah Cockerham. After a brief business period a short but in teresting program was rendered. The hostess served refreshments at the close of the meeting. Rev. Baxter, of Tuscallola, Ala- preached a very interesting ser mon Sunday, April 2, at 11 o’clock at Damascus , Baptist church. His text was taken from First Peter, fifth verse, using for his subject “The Fruitful Growth of the Christian Family’’. Rev. Baxter was formerly a pastor of Beulah Presbyterian church in North Wilkesboro. The Community Club met in the home of Mrs. Josephine Spoak.s. The meeting was opened with the president, Mrs. Annie Jones, in charge. The .meeting was enjoyed by all. Miss Mary Parks, of Philadelphia, Pa., was a visitor at the meeting. Miss Parks is the daughter of Mr. Mr. Ernest Parks.
