Coroner I. M. Myers has re turned to this city after spending a week at Crumpler In Ashe county. Mr. and Mrs. L. B. Walsh, Mrs. Paul Foil and small son, Mickey, of Moravian Falls, spent Friday visiting friends in Concord. Miss Mable Hendren, of Johns ton City, Tenn., has been here visiting this week with her sis ter, Mrs. Ivey Moore, and other relatives. Mrs. O. C. Holcomb, who has been with her daughter, Mrs. J. E. Fowler In Flushing, N. Y., since last fall, returned to her home here Tuesday. Mrs. Conrad Eller, of Boomer, returned home Tuesday after spending three days with her hus band, Pvt. Eller, who is In a Tank Battalion at Fort Knox, Ky. Miss Opal Laws and Miss Eula Mae Johnson, of North Wllkes- boro, spent the weekend with Miss Flossie Laws at Winston- Salem. Mr. B. J. Robinson, Jr., stu dent of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, has ar rived to spend the summer here with Ms parents. Mrs. Bills Is remembered here as the former Miss Adeline Hen dren. Miss Earline Welsner, who has held a position as dental assist ant for a number of years to Dr. Carolyn Taylor, has gone to Wal do, Fla., to make her home there with her parents. Miss Bonnie Lovette spent the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. O. Lovette. Miss Lov ette Is attending Droiighdon’s Business College In Winston-Sa lem. Dr. and Mrs. H. B. Smith and daughter, Anne, Mr. and Mrs. D. J. Carter and daughter, Jane, returned Wednesday from spend ing a few days at Myrtle Beach, S. C. Rev. and Mrs. J. O. Irvin have returned from Fayette, Mo., where they visited their son. Rev. G. C. Irvin, and family for about ten days. Rev. Mr. Irvin Is pas tor of the Wllkeshoro and Union Methodist churches. Miss Mary Moore Hlx left to day for New York City where she will attend summer school at the Columbia University for six weeks. She will be Joined there by several of her schoolmates from Woman’s College In Greensboro. Mrs. Louise Alexander has re turned home after spending a week in Boone with her sister, Mrs. Dick Dudley, a summer school student at A. S. T. C., and a short visit with another sister, Mrs. Teague Hipps, at Spruce Pine. Mrs. A. L. Brzostowski has re turned from Haverhill, Mass., where ehe visited her husband, who Is In the army and stationed there. She was accompanied home by his sister, Miss Lucreta Brzostowski, who Is spending n week here. Assigned to an Important war job at the Pearl Harbor Navy Yard, is Ralph S. R. Brown, of route one. North Wllkeshoro. who recently arrived there to help maintain the ships of the Pa cific Fleet and send them back to rejoin the Navy’s successful march to Tokyo. Jimmie and Dudley Moore, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Ivey Moore, returned Saturday from spend ing ten days at the Hanes Y. M. C. A. camp near Wlnston-Saleni. Jimmie will leave Sunday to spend two weeks at Boy Scout camp Lasater near Winston-Salem. Mrs. J. G. Bentley and grand daughter, Sue Ellen Carter, Mrs. Perry Lowe and children, Caney Lynn and Betty Jo, of Pores Knob, are spending this week at Shatley Springs In Ashe County. Mrs. McCutchen is a daugh ter and Mrs. Finley is a daughter- in-law of the B. J. Finleys. Mrs. John Rhodes and little grandson, John Thomas, have re turned to ths city after a visit with Mr. and Mrs. Kent Thomas on Long Island, N. Y. Mrs. Thomas Is Mrs. Rhodes’ sister. Paul Caudill, who was wounded by shrapnel May 23 on Okinawa while serving with the Sixth Marine division. Is now In the naval hospital at Mare Island, California. Cranor, has ar rived home for a visit with his parents, and will be here until July 4th. W!l^.t.SHOfO S.C McCarter Obituary Mrs. Dlclo Columbine McCarter was bom January 1, 1856; died June 18, 1946; her stay here on earth was 90 years, 6 months and 4 days. For more than three score yeai’s she lived a devoted Christian life. Mrs. McCarter professed faith in Christ In her early life and joined Lewis Baptist church. She later moved her membership to Liberty Grove Baptist church In 1900, having lived a "life worth living’’. She died a triumphant death. She was married to Thomas W. McCarter In 1879. She Is survived by one brother, J. P. IHchplson, Union Grove: four children, Mrs. M. D. Byrd, Lee McOarter, and Roscoe McGarter, all of North Wllkeshoro, route two; Mrs. Ezetta Tedder, North Wllkeshoro, route one, ■with whom she made her home; Also eighteen grand children and several great-grand children.
