Bason and Miss Janie McDlar- mld combined hosplallty to the members of the Legion Auxiliary in the September meeting held Monday evening at the Finley home on E street Mrs. John W. Leyshon, the president, was in charge of the business session, during which time much discus sion was made on increasing membership, especially members from families of World War II veterans. Commissioned In February of this year she had made only one run to Truk and back. -V PFO. JOSEPH B. LINNEY SERVING ON THE WASP On the USS Wasp Off Tokyo.— Joseph B. Llnney, private, first Class, US.MCR, son of Mrs. W. E. Llnney, Wllkeeboro, N. C., is serving on this aircraft carrier in the 3rd Fleet’s victory cruise. However, the Wasp.’s record week, March 14-20, still la the main topic of conversation. The ship took a 500-pound bomb through the flight deck, suffering 102 casualties. Within 50 min utes she was ready to launch her planes. In that week the Wasp and her planes shot down 14 aircraft and destroyed six on the ground, scored two 600-ponnd bomb hits on each of two enemy carriers, dropped two 1,000-pound bombs on a battleship, a 1,000-pounder on another battleship, three 600- puonders on a heavy crulsor, a 1,000-poundor on a big cargo ship and heavily strafed a large submarine. ■V No Certificate Needed! GOODYEAR GRADE A CAMELBACK NO CERTIFICATE NEEDED Lincoln Heights Boys In Dairy Calf Show The Lincoln Heights Agricul tural Department participated on September 20, 21, in the Junior Dairy Cattle Show, which was held In Greensboro, at the Wood- lawn Dairy Farm. The depart ment was the winner of one sec ond prize and one third prize. The winner of the second prize was James Wesley Harris, and the winner of the third prize was Sylvester Oockerham. Calves used were under one year old. Breed, Guernsey. Calvea were eligible for regis tration due to not being regis tered, were placed under grade group, which showed all dairy qualities. The department is mak ing all efforts that these calves are registered at once and i advis ing all farmers who have such type calves eligible for registra tion to consult A. M. Overton, teacher of vocational education at Lincoln Heights School, Wil- kesboro, N.
