WATCH PENNEY'S IN '47 Thurston-Lowe Marriage Saturday At Taylorsville Miss Lucy Goodale Thurston, of TayLorsville, became the bride of Mr. James Lucius Lowe, of North Wilkeeboro, Saturday eve ning, Pelbruary 8, at eight o' clock at the Presbyterian Church in Taylorsville. Dr. Joe Carter, of Newton, former pastor of the bride, and Rev. M. J. MoChesney, pastor of the bride, officiated, us&g the ring cpremony. The church was decorated with arrangements of plumosa, smllax, white snap dragons, floor baskets of white gladioli, and candelabra holding cathedral tapers. The pews were tied with white gladioli and white satin bows. Before the ceremony Mrs. Howard- Gryder, organist, pre sented a program of nuptial music consisting of "Nocturne in E Plat by Chopin" and "Schu bert's Ave Maria." Miss Gladys Campbell sang "Because" and "0 Promise Me." The wedding march from "Lohengrin" was used for the processional and during the ceremony . "Liefbee traum" was played. Mendels shon's March was used as the recessional. The bridegroom had as his best man his brother-in-law, Mr. Carl Buchan, of North Wilkee boro. Serving as usher-grooms men were Dr. Tom Thurston, of Durham, Mr. Steve Thurston, of Atlanta, Mr. Robert Thurston, of Taylorsville, brothers of the bride, Mr. William Brame, Mr. Philip Brame and Mr. Jerry Derr, of North Wilkesboro. Miss Geit Thurston, of Taylors ville, was her sister's maid of honor. She wore a dress of pink brocade taffeta styled with a sweetheart neckline, fitted bo dice, and three-quaTter length sleeves. Her headdress was a shoulder-length veil of net in matching pink attached to a halo I of braided pink net. She carried a blue fan bouquet of white gar denias and stephanotis showered with net and stephanotis. The bridesmaids were Miss Jean Cook and Miss Ruth Cook, of Staten Man**, N. Y., Miss Cynthia Townsend, of Jackson ville, Fla., Miss Annette Wadlin, of West Orange, N. J.( Miss Lucy McNeely, cousin of the bride, of Mooresvllle, and Tom SThurston, of Durham, sister-in law of the bride. They wore dresses and headdresses in blue styled like tho'se of the maid of honor and carried colonial bou quets of mixed flowers. Little Miss Anna White, , of Taylorsville, and Master Tommy Thurston, of Durham, nephew of the bride, dressed aa miniature bride and groom, preceded the bride, scattering pink rose petals. The bride, who was given in marriage by her father, Dr. Asa Thurston, wore a wedding gown of white slipper satin designed with a Queen Anne neckline, fit ted bodice, three-quarter length sleeves ending in an acoordlan pleated ruffle, and a draped skirt with a bustle back of accordian pleats sweeping Into a long train. Her finger-tip veil of bridal il lusion fell from a coronet of pearlized orange blossoms and she carried a white satin fan bouquet of white Orchids and Stephanotls showered with net and stephanotls. Her only orna ment was a string of pearls, a gift of the groom. Mrs. Thurston, mother of the bride, wore black lace and chif-' fon gown and an orchid shoulder bouquet. Mrs. Lowe, the bride groom's mother, wore a gown of black lace and a shoulder bou quet of, orchids. After the ceremony a reception was given by the bride's parents at their home in Taylorsville. The bride and bridegroom, Mrs. Lowe, Dr. and Mrs. Thurston and members of the wedding party stood in the receiving line. Green ery and white gladioli decorated the home. Mrs. William White and Mrs. Sloane Payne poured coffee from silver service at each end of the table. Others a sisting in the hospitality were Mr. and Mrs. W. P, Ingram, Mr. and Mrs. Garfield Jennings, Mr. and Mrs. G. M. Kirkpatrick, Mr. and Mrs. C. K. Sherrill, Mr. Sloane Payne, M r. William White, Miss Fannie Lee Pruitt, Miss Ann Campbell, Miss Lillian Zachary, Miss Joy Teague, of Taylorsville; Mr. and Mrs. Thurs ton McNeely, of Mooresvllle, and Miss Dicky DuVall, of Atlanta. The bridegroom is the son of Mrs. Lucius Smith Lowe and the late Mr. Lowe, of North Wilkes boro. He was graduated from North Wilkesboro high school. Upon the death of his father he took over the family business, Lowe's Hardware. During the war he served four years in the army, spending six months in Okinawa and Japan. Since receiv ing his discharge he has reas sumed his duties with Lowe's Hardware. Mr. and Mrs. Lowe will be at home after February 24 th, in North Wilkesboro. Many out of town guests from Wilkesboro, North Wilkesboro, Winston-Salem, Raleigh, Chapel Hill, Atlanta, Hickory, Moores ville, Charlotte, Elkin and Dur ham attended the wedding and reception. The bride's table waa covered with a lace cloth and centered by a three-tiered wedding cake topped by a miniature bride and groom, flanked by antlgue slip pers filled with mixed flowers, and candelabra holding white tapers. Ribbon streamers extend ed from the symbols in the base of the cake to the edges ef the table. The home was decorated with greenery and white flowers. Miss Gelt Thurston, sister of the bride, assisted in cutting the cake and Mrs. William White presid-. ed at the punch bowl. The bride-elect wore a Grecian gown of pink and rose chiffon Jersey and a corsage of Garden ias. The ibridal party, members of the two families, and intimate friends were present.
