When a tavern isn't a credit to the community, the brewers go right to the owner and ask him to clean up his place. Members of The Cricket Home Demonstration Club met at the home of Mrs. Dick Thompson on Wednesday, May 14, at 2 o'clock, p. m., their new meeting date, with Mrs. Clyde Phillips as as sociate hoetess. Mrs. E. R. Eller, President, called the meeting to order and the group sang "America the Beautiful," and repeated the Club Collect in unison. Mrs. Boh Church, secretary, read the mnlutes and called the roll. There were twenty-four present. We welcome three new members this month, Mrs. H. P. Jones, Mrs. Edd Brookshlre and Mrs. Don Trent. After' the gen eral treasurer and the building fund treasurer gave their reports a nuprber of important business matters were dispose^ of, among them being final plans for the supper given by our clutb to rep resentatives of the Imperial Life Insurance company at a district meeting held Thursday night, May 8. Plans were also madp for an auction sale to be held June 20, I at the home of Mrs. H. P. Jones, for the benefit of our community house and youth center. Mrs. Edd Bumgarner was appointed pub licity chairman; so everybody get interested in this sale and watch for further announcements. As our June meeting falls on the 4th, the day we all go to Boone for the District Federation meeting, our club will meet on Friday, June 6. Every member please note the change of date and make your plans to attend so we can have one hundred per cent perfect attendance. Mrs. George Sale and Mrs. Lawrence Pearson will be hostesses, and we will meet at the home of Mrs. L. .T. Barnard. At this time Miss Margaret Morrison, Assistant Home Agent, announced that Mrs. Annie H. Greene, Home Agent, is on tem porary leave of absence due to illness, and introduced Mrs. Es IwwmwMi will be highlights. Or der from Yoijr Local Newsdealer %yiivi Will To Prison By Hayes Elkin.?Reece Carter, of El kin, was sentenced to serve three years in prison by Judge John son Hayes in federal court in Wniston-Salem this month. Car ter was convicted on charges of forgery. Royal Martin, of Jones ville, also charged with forgery in the case, was released on pro bation. The two men reportedly at tempted to cash a government check at a local cafe several weeks ago. The men found the check, it was stated, endorsed it, EXECUTOR'S NOTICE North Carolina, Wilkes County.
