Miss Gordon Reins Extended Courtesies Among the first of the pre nuptial oourteales given for Mies Gordon Reins, bride-elect of Sep tember, vu the informal tea giv en by Mrs. Dwlght Miller and Miss Harriett Crutchfleld at the borne of Mrs. Miller's mother, Mrs. George Forester, on E Street Wednesday afternoon. The honoree, who is to be married to Robert Riggs Smoak, of Wil kesboro, was presented with a corsage of white roses and china in her chosen pattern. Two groups of friends called between the hours of four to five and were served a tea course in the dining roOm by the hostesses, who were assisted by Mrs. For ested and Miss Pat McNiel. Quan tities of mixed garden flowers made a festive setting for the oc casion. Another delightful courtesy for Miss Reins wag the bridge party given by Miss Elizabeth McNeil at ber home on Ninth Street Thursday evening. Sharing honors with Miss Reins were Mrs. James Lowe, the former Mies Lucy Thurston, of Taylorsvllle, and Miss Martha Badgett, of Maryville, Tenn., who was here visiting with her sister, Mrs. J. C. Allen. All three of the hon orees were remembered with gifts. Bridge was played at five tables arranged amid attractive decorations of mixed summer flowers. Prizes in the game were awarded to Miss Norma Smoak for high score and to Miss Mary Elmore Finley for low score. At the beginning of play Miss Mc Neil was assisted by her mother, Mrs. M. B. McNeil, and Miss Mary Louise Newton in serving a dessert course. Preceding the tea Wednesday afternoon Mrs. C. D. Coffey, Sr., had Miss Reins and a few of the neighbors in for an informal hour. The group on arrival were invited into the dining room for refreshments, where effective bridal decorations were used and a corsage marked the honoree's place. During the hour Mrs. Cof fey read a comical wedding poem, and presented Miss Reins with a gift, to which was attached a shower of white hearts bearing wedding superstitions, and 'best wishes for the bride to be. Card Party Given Thursday Evening Mrs. Charles McNeil, Mrs. O. K. Stevens, and Mrs. H. H. Dot son were hostesses at a lovely card party at the McNeil home in Wilkesboro Thursday evening. Bridge and rook were played dur ing the evening and was preced ed by a dessert course. High and second high score prizes in bridge were won by Mrs. Harry Pearson and Mrs. Robert John son, high score award in rook went to Mrs. David Lowe, and the bingo prize to Mrs. Walter H. Jones. Mrs. Claude Hutchens, the former Miss Clyde Shepherd, was given crystal In her pattern. Attractive arrangements of cut flowers made a colorful back ground for the players. Miss Ellen Robinson Hostess to Her Club Miss Ellen Robinson was grac ious hostess to the members of the Wednesday Hewing club and a few extra guests at her home on E Street Wednesday after noon. Quests of the club were Mrs. W. K. Sturdlvant and her aunt, Mrs. Gardner W. Beckett, of Jacksonville, Fla., who Is here on a.visit; Mrs. Howard Price, of Moorjesvllle, who was visiting in the home of Mrs. J. L. Clements, Mrs. James C. Mc Diarmid and her daughter, Miss Katharine McDiarmld, of Austin, Texas, who Is here on an extend ed visit. Following an Informal hour the guests were served tempting refreshments by Miss Robinson being assisted by her niece, Miss McDiarmld. Union Grove News The revival meeting will be gin at Mt.
