Second Baptist Has Successful Revival A most successful revival closed Sunday at Second Baptist ekurch la this city. Rev. Ottls Cook, o f Longview Baptist church, Hickory, did the preaching and assisted the pastor, Rev. Ralph Miller. Benny Lee was in charge of the singing and he also will be on the "Back to the Bible" program each Sunday morning at 7:80 over WKBC. Thirteen were baptized in the Second Baptist baptismal service and the revival was declared to be the best in many years at the church. — _ Dillon rieasani niflge News Of Week Those attending the Walajj Reunion that was held this year at Bearer Creek were Mr. and Mrs. Gentry Walsh and family, Mr. and Mrs. Tom Walsh and Rev. L. B. Murray. B. H. Garter and Raymond Norman visited relatives 1 n Greensboro over the week-end. Miss Betty Ann Sales spent the week-end visiting her grandparents, Rev. and Mrs. L. B. Murray. Mr. and Mrs. Ledford Tricker and family spent the week-end visiting parents and relatives in Sanford. Mr. and Mrs. John Rose, of Arlington were the Sunday gueets of Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Carter. Mrs. Barney Norman was called to Durham due to the death of her brother, Don Cheeks! N o Roaring River and Ddlaplane News Mr. Frank Sparks is said to bp buying six acres of land from Mrs. Pearl Davis and paying $100 an acre. The county, or road authorities, will not work or improve the road on which Mr. Sparks is now living, is his reason for buying another place. Mrs. Ida Call, about 90, continues in feeble health. "T". JL Fairplains Club Has Meeting For October The iFairplains Home Demonstration club met with Mrs. Stanley Hayes, October 7, at 1:30 p. m., with 14 members present. Mrs. E. S. Cooper and Mrs. F. A. Absher were visitors. The meeting was opened by the President. Mrs. Wiley Brooks. The club sang "Is Everybody Happy," and the Club Collect was repeated in unison. , The minutes were read by Mrs. Rex Kilby, treasurer's report was given by Mrs. Aaron Brooks. The club members donated 24 towels and Bath cloths (or the T. B. Hospital. We had as our guest, Miss Addie Malone, Home Economist from Duke Power Co., of Winston-Salem, along with our Home Agent, Mrs. Paul Greene. Miss Malone gave us a very interesting demonstration on "Better Light for Better Sight," using the slides to illustrate better lighting for the home. Plans were made for the Achievement Day program and the exhibits to be used for our booths are to be brought to the next club meeting, which will be with Mrs. Rex Kilby, November 4th, at 2 o'clock, p. m. Please remember the change made in the time. The Achievement Day Program will be November 6th, in the Masonic Hall, in North Wilkesboro. We were happy to enroll one of our visitors, Mrs. E. S. Cooper, as a member of our club, and we extend a hearty welcome to all 'the ladies in our community to visit our club. A contest was given by Mrs. W. E. Snow. Mrs. Claude Deal and Mrs. Claude McGee won the prizes. At the close of the meeting delicious refreshments were served by our gracious hostess.—Reported. Roaring River Club Has Lighting Study The members, of the Roaring River Home Demonstration club met Friday afternoon, October 17, in the home of Mrs. A. C. Staley. The president, Mrs. Tea Carpenter, presided during the business session. The opening song, was "Onward Christian Soldiers." The scripture lesson from Luke 18:35-43 was given by Mrs. G. W. Scroggs and prayer was led by Mrs. Carpenter. The secretary read the reports of the last meeting, and the usual business matters were disposed of. Some of the members brought canned food and white feed bags for the Wilkes Tuberculosis Hospital and others are expected to bring their contribution8 to the next meeting. The following officers were elected for the coming year: Mrs. Rufus Gilliam, president; Mrs. Ted Carpenter, vice president, Mrs. A. C. Staley secretary; and Mrs. James Henderson, treasurer. Miss Margaret Morrison gave an interesting demonstration on Lighting. During the social hour, the hostess, assisted by Mrs. L. E.
