I Mrs. Coy Eller, of Purlear, Route 1, underwent an operation at Davis Hospital in Statesville Wednesday, Dec. 3. Mr. George Burgess has been i very ill since suffering; a heart attack Saturday. He is a patient at the Wilkes hospital. Mr. Larry Gotrard, cashier of The Northwestern Bank, of Jefferson, was here today looking after business matters. •Sgt. Win slow Gudger has been promoted to his present rank at Roswell, New Mexico, where he is now stationed. Sgt. Gudger is a son of Mr. and Mrs. L. A. Jones, of WinstonSalem, and James Eugene Holmes, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. James E. Mitchell, of Wilkesboro, is visiting in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Hunter in Fayettville. Mrs. Hunter is Mrs. Mitchell's sister. Rev. George Walker, of Valdese, will preach at Sharon Walker Baptist church 12 miles west of Wilkesboro on highway 268 Sunday. Everybody is invited.
