Miss Shirley Atkinson, who in Philadelphia, Pa., was here for the holidays with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lane Atkinson, and had as her guest, Miss Lois Wilson, also of Philadelphia. Mrs. John Davis nad son and daughter, Mr. Lewis Davis and Miss Nell Davis, and Mr. Bruce Harris, all of Statesville, were guests here for the day Saturday in the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Anderson. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Bumgarner, of Wilkesiboro route 1, had as Christmas visitors Mr. and Mrs. Clifford Goddard and Miss Clara Bumgarner, all of Arlington, Va. Mrs. Goddard and Miss Bumgarnear are their daughters. "~MrT and Mrs. James Blackwood and daughter, Miss Margaret Blackwood, of Lenoir, visited here during the week-end in the home of Mr. and Mrs. L. D. Cook. The Blackwoods are former residents of tbis city. -*-Mr. R. R. Church attended the funeral of his cousin, Mr. Opie Triplette, in Elkin Wednesday. Mr. Triplette died of a heart attack at his home in Winston-Salem Monday. He was a veteran of both world wars, and his body •was carried to Arlington National Cemetery, Washington, for burial.
