the state, prospects for the meet
ing didn't look any too good last
week," Curtis said, "but with
warmer weather and open roads,
I see no reason why sheep grow
ers in Watauga and neanby coun
ties shouldn't be able to attend.

Burchette Rites
Held Wednesday
Funeral service for Joe Sam
uel Burchette, 18, who was kill
ed instantly Monday afternoon
when tbe car in whidh he was
riding crashed on highway 421
10 miles east of Wilkesboro,
was held Wednesday, two o'
oclock, at Macedonia BaptiBt
church near Ronda. Rev. Lloyd
Pardue and Rev. R. R. Crater
conducted the service.
R. D. and Jake Mathis, youths
with Burchette in the car, were
badly injured and remain at the
Wilkes hospital.
Burchette is survived by his
fatheF and mother, William J.
and Rose E-llen Reynolds Burch
ette, of Roaring River route two,
and the following brothers and
sisters: James and Ernest Burch
ette, of Roaring River; Mrs.
Amelia Jane Pardue, of Yadkin

Millers Creek Sets
Polio Record Fund
Millers Creek school raised a
total of $350.24 in the polio
campaign, Principal P. W. Greer
reported today.
In the contest among rooms
Miss Anne McNeill's room won
first place with $44.60 raised
while Mrs. Arlee Younce's room
was second with $38.50. Mrs.
Howard Jones was chairman for
the successful campaign in the
school.
