Fol lowing play, the hostess served tempting refreshments. Mrs. C. D. Coffey, Jr. Bridge Club Hostess Mrs. C. D. Ooffey, Jr., was hostess to the members of her bridge club at her home on Ninth street Friday afternoon. Table prises In the game were won.by Mrs. L>. M. Nelson and Mrs. £2. N. Phillips. Long entertained for the members of her bridge ctttb at her home in Wflkeebdro Tues day evening. High and lev score prises in tMte game played at twe tables went to Miss Bioise Starr and Mrs. Julias C. Hubbard. At the close of play, the hostess served a salad coarse. Mrs. Murphy Hunt Entertains Her Club . The members of the Current Topic club and some additional gaestg were delightfully enter tained by Mrs. Murphy Hunt at her home north of the city Wed , nesday afternoon. Preceding the game of rook, played at three | tables, Mrs. Johnson J. Hayes presided for -a short business session. Mrs. Warner Miller, Sr., received the prize for top boo re, Mrs. Bdd F. Gardner for low score, and Ml-s. Hayes the bingo award. At the close of play the hostess was assisted by Mrs. J. Q. Adams and Mrs. Stokes Hunt in serving a three course dinner. Guesta of the club besdiee Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. Adams were Mrs. R. T. McNiel, Mrs. W. M. De Berry, nad Mrs. Bob McGinn, of Cullowhee, who came in for the dinner. Mrs. McGinn was visiting in the Hunt home. 9 ' Wilkesboro Club In Monthly Meeting Twenty members were present for the February meeting of the Wilkesboro Woman's Club held Friday evening at the home of Mrs. Q. T. Mitchell with Mrs. O. K. Whlttington and Mrs. T.'M. Foster as asociate hostesses. Mrs. Lawrence Miller, the president, was in charge of the business session and appointed &s a nomi nating committee to secure new officers Mrs. J. B. Henderson, Mrs. A. R. Gray, and Mrs. Walter Irvin. The club voted to contrir bate to the memorial fund tor Mrs. C. H. Cowles, and plana were discupsed * for' the dance the-club la sponsoring Saturday, March 13 at the Wilk«boro gymnasium for the benefit of the new gym nasium. Mrs. W. T. Long, chairman of the education department, was In charge of the Urogram. First, she presented Mrs. C. T. Dough ton, who presented some of her voice pupils. Accompanied by Mrs. Doughton, Miss Mary Steel man sang "Holy City"; Norman Darlington sang Handel's D'Lar go; and Miss Steelman anj Mr. Darlington sang Victor Herbert's ''Because You're You." After the musical program, Mrs. Long pre sented Mr. O. ^ Eiler, superin tendent of Wilkes County schools, who told about the many needs of the schools. 'It watt anounced that the host esses for the March meeting would by Mrs. „C. C. McNeil, Miss es Mabel Hendren and Louise Wright. During the social hour, the hostesses served tempting re freshments. v ! Miss Margaret Jones Business Manager For May Day Exercise JTarmvllle, Va.—At a student body meeting or the State Teach ers' College of Farmville, Miss Bebe Geyer, senior from Chat ham,and Miss Hope Frank, Roan oke, were elected co-chairmen ■for May Day. Miss Margaret Jones, senior from North Wilke» iboro, wag elected bnsines mana ger. The theme for May Day this year Is Greek, according to Mrs. Merle Land rum, director. Miss Geyer served last year on the May Day committee, and has been active in class productions. She also is a member of Alpha Kappa Gamma,leadership fraterm Ity. Miss Frank, who also served on the May Day committee last year, has had experience in cos tuming class productions . Miss Jones is a membor of Kappa Del ta Pi, an^ she 1b a business edu cation major. The groom is attending North Carolina State College at Raleigh. o Deep Gap News Mr. and Airs. Joe Walsh, of Mt. Zion, spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. G. O. Trip lett. Mrs. Ravon Wilcox has been a patient in Watauga Hospital the past week. Mr. C. C. Gough, of Alexan dria, Va., spent Thursday night I with Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Steel man. Mr. Gough is the son-in law of Mr. and Mrs. Steelman. Mr. W. M. Lookabill and Mr. T. L. Moretz made a business •trip to Virginia last week. Mr. I Lookabill expects to move his family there in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Steel man, Jr., and small daughter, Jane, of Boone, spent the week end here with Mr. Steelman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Steelman. Mr. B. W. Moretz, who has been spending the winter In Florida, returned home last week. Mrs. W. D. Lookabill has been ill the past few days. Her many friends wish for her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Nettle Church is spend ing sometime here with her sis ter, Mrs. G. W. Smith. , Mr. Harold Steelman left last week for Marcus Hook, where he expects to be with the Merch ant Marines. He has spent many months in this branch of service heretofore. Mrs. R. G. Call, of Moravian Falls, visited her mother, Mrs. A. R. Yates, one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Worth McNeil, of Idlewlld, spent Sunday with Mrs. McNeil's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Falrchild.
