Oolfey, Jr., was hostess to the members of her bridge elnb at her home on Ninth street Friday afternoon. Table | I prises in the game were won by, Mrs. L. M. Nelson and Mrs. E. N. Phillips. Refreshments were| served at the beginning of play. Mrs. W. T. Long Bridge Club Hostess Mrs. W. T. Long entertained for the members of her bridge club at her home In Wilkesboro Tues day evening. High and low score prizes in the game played at two tables went to Miss Eloise Starr and Mrs. Julius C. Hubbard. At the close of play, the hostess served a salad course. Mrs. Murphy Hunt Entertains Her Club The members of the Current Topic club and some additional guest8 were delightfully enter tained by Mrs. Murphy Hunt at her home north of the city "Wed nesday afternoon. Preceding the game of rook, played at three tables, Mrs. Johnson J. Hayee presided for a short business session. MrB. Warner Miller, Sr.,! received the prize for top score, Mrs. Edd P. Gardner for low1 score, and Mrs. Hayee the bingo award. At the close of play the hostess was assisted by Mrs. J. Q. Adams and Mrs. Stokes Hunt in serving a three course dinner. Guests of the elub besdies Mrs. Hunt and Mrs. Adams were Mrs. R. T. McNiel, Mrs. W. M. De Berry, nad Mrs. Bob McGinn, of Cullowhee, who came in for the dinner. Mrs. McGinn was visiting in the Hnnt home. Wilkesboro Ctub In Monthly Meeting Twenty members were present for the February meeting of the Wilkesboro Woman's Club held Friday evening at the home of Mrs. O. T. Mitchell with Mrs. O. K. Whittington and Mrs. T. M. Foster as asociate hostesses. Mrs. Lawrence Miller, the president, was in charge of the business session and appointed as a nomi nating committee to secure new officerg Mrs. J. B. Henderson, Mrs. A. R. Gray, and Mrs. Walter Irvin. The club voted to contri bat® to the memorial fund for Mrs. C. H. Cowles. and plans were discussed for the dance the club is sponsoring Saturday, March 13 at the Wllkesboro gymnasium for the benefit of the new gym nasium. • Mrs. W. T. Long, chairman of the education department, was in charge of the program. First, she presented Jdrs. C. T. Dough ton, who presented some of her voice pupils. Accompanied by Mrs. Doughton, Miss Mary Qteel man sang "Holy City"; Norman Darlington sang Handel's D'Lar go; and Miss Steelman and Mr. Darlington sang Victor Herbert's "Because You're Too." After the musical program, Mrs. Long pre sented Mr. O. B. Eller, superin tendent of Wilkes County schools, who told about the many needs of the schools. It was anounced that the host esses for the March meeting would by Mrs. C. C. McNeil, Miss es Mabel Hendren and Louise Wright. During the social hour, the hostesses served tempting re freshments. Miss Margaret Jones Business Manager For May Day Exercise Farmville, Va.—At a student body meeting of the State Teach ers' College of 'Farmrille, Miss Bebe Geyer, senior from Chat ham,and Miss Hope Frank, Roan oke, were elected co-chairmen for May Day. Miss Margaret Jones, senior from North Wilkes boro, wag elected buaines mana ger. The theme for May Day this I year is Greek, according to Mrs. Merle Landrom. director. Miss Geyer served last year on the May Day committee, and has been active in class productions. She #100 is a member of Alpha Kappa Gamma,leadership fratern ity. Miss Frank, who also served on the May Day committee last yeas, has had experience in cos tuming class productions . Miss Jones is a member of Kappa Del ta Pi, and she is a business edu cation major. Smyth Chapel Johnson-Dancy Vows Are Announced Mrs. Vergle Johnsn, of North Wllkesboro route 2, announces the marriage of her daughter, Betty Sue Johnson, to Wayne Dancy, eon of Mr. and Mrs. Glen Dancy, of North Wilkesboro. The vows were spoken at York, S. C., with Ernest H. Nunn officiating. The bride is a member of the graduating class of '48 of Moun tain View high school. The groom is attending North Carolina State College at Raleigh. Deep Gap News Mr. and Mrs. Joe Walsh, of Mt. Zion, spent Saturday night with Mr. and Mrs. G. 0. Trip lett. Mrs. Ravon Wilcox has been; a patient in Watauga Hospital the past week. Mr. C. C. Gough, of Alexan dria, Va., spent Thursday nightt with Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Steel man. Mr. Gough is the aon-ln law of Mr. and Mrs. Steelman. Mr. W. M. Lookablll and Mr. T. - L. Moretz made a business trip to Virginia last week. Mr.) Lookabill expects to move his family there in the near future. Mr. and Mrs. Howard Steel man, Jr., and email daughter, Jane, of Boone, spent the week end here with Mr. Steelman's parents, Mr. and Mrs. H. S. Steelman. Mr. E5. W. Moretz, who has been spending the . winter in Florida, returned home last week. >' Mrs. W. D. Liookabill has been ill the past few days. Her many friends wish for her a speedy recovery. Mrs. Nettle Church is spend ing sometime here with her sis ter, Mrs. G. W. Smith. Mr. Harold Steelman left last week for Marcus Hook, where he expects to be with the Merch ant Marines.
