He is a candi date for the post of' Republican national committeeman in North Carolina and while here address ed the Wilkes Republican con vention in Wilkeaboro Saturday. Miss Margaret Linney, mem ber of the faculty of Bast Ten nessee State College, Johnson City, recently visited her half sister. Miss Ruth Linney, twice at the Wilkes hospital. Mr. and Mrs. J. B. Culler, Mr. and Mrs. T. B. Norman, of Wil kesboro, accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. E. H. Fritts, of Tusca loosa, Ala., visited Mr. and Mrs. R. W. Culler at Bluefield, W. Va., Sunday. Miss Dott Gabriel, who 1b in school at A.S.T.C., Boone, and Bill Gabriel, High Point College student, spent the week-end here with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gabriel. .♦ Ex-Sheriff and Mrs. P. E. Brown returned Sunday to their home in Wilkesboro from spend ing two months in Miami, Fla. Mr. James Osborne, a nephew, went to Miami and accompanied them home. Little Miss Page Sink, daugh ter of Mr. and Mrs. J. David Sink, of Lexington, spent the week-end here as guest of Miss Jane Kenerly, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James R- Kenerly. Mr. Henry (Flash) Lowman, manager of the North Wilkes boro baseball team, spent the week-end at his home in Grees boro. Mr. Hobert Morton, prominent Albemarle attorney, was in this city Friday in the interest of his candidacy for Republican nation al committeeman from North Carolina. Messrs. Paul, Hal and Joe Ga , bTiel and Sebert Lockm'an, of Lin colnton, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gabriel during the week-end. The Messrs. Gabriel are brothers of Mr. W. G. Ga briel and Mr. Lockman is a neph ew. Miss Rath Linney returnee last week to her home on Roar ing River, Route 2, after spend , nig 2L days in the Wilkes Hos pital and a week with her cous in, Mrs. W. K. Sturdivant. She was given four transfusions for an extreme degree of simple anemia and underwent a major operation. * Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Hul cher and young son, Buddy, of Fresno, Ohio, arrived here last week for a visit with their par ents, Mr. and Mrs. C. H. Hulcher and Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Jones. Mr. Hulcher plans to return home in about a week but Mrs. Hulch er and Buddy will remain for a lopger visit. Mr. and Mrs. Jim B. Hender son, Jr., of the Key City Baking Company, returned from Chica go, 111., where they spent a week at Edgewater Beach Hotel attend ing the American Society of Bakery Engineers' anual conven tion. They also enjoyed the Sie bel Institute of Technology alum ni dinner and entertainment, Mr. Henderson being a graduate in 1937 Tours were made of mod em bakeries and many discus sions valuable to bakers were en joyed, also a trip to'the worlds largest grain market, "Wheat Pit", in the Chicago Board of Trade Building during active ses sion.
