Club At Millers :lg
Creek In Meeting
Mrs. J. H. Eudaily entertained
the April meeting of Millers
Creek Home Demonstration club.
Mrs. M. P. Bumgarner im co
hostess.
Beauty was the theme for the
day—beautiful weather, beauti
ful season, beautiful apirit of
friendliness topped with a pic
ture demonstration of beautify
ing the yard.
There were too many ladles
absent. Only sixteen showed up
for the worthwhile program.
Those present learned that the
eaeiest, simplest yard planning
and planting is the mosj beauti
ful; that the yard more then the
house reflects the personality ol
the people living in the home;
''that man with all his inven
tions has found ho substitute for
the contentment and inspiration
that comes from a beautiful
landscape." (Quotation from hor
ticulturist John H. Harris).
Cancer drive started with over
ten dollars, cook books all sold,
and refreshments Berved.
May meeting will be with Mrs,
Q. O. Kilby, third Thursday.—

Cricket Club Meets
For April Program
This is the time of year when
we think most about making our
yards and homes more beautiful.
Much information was given on
this subject by Mrs. Annie H.
Greene, Home Agent, to the,
members, and visitors, of the
Cricket Club Wednesday after
noon, April 7, when they met at
the home of Mrs. Dr EJ. Turner
for their regular meeting.
"The Old North State" was
used as the opening number,
and after repeating- together the
Club Collect the secretary gave
her report of the last meeting,
which was approved. Twenty
seven members answered to the
roll call, and there were three
visitors present. Next month
each member is requested to an
swer present by giving a helpful
household hint.
Mrs. Hunter Church, our
Health Leader, was appointed
as chairman of the Cancer drive,
and she in turn named a com
mittee to assist her in this work
through this community. The j
Club as'a whole voted also to
make a donation to this fund.
Plans were made concerning
the "Manless Wedding" to be
given by the Cricket Club at
Millers Creek School Auditorium
on Friday night, April 23, at
7:30 o'clock. A large number of
the members are donating home
made cakes for the cake walk
which will be held immediately
following the wedding. Advanced
tickets are now on sale by mem
bers of the Club, and a good
time Is expected when "May
Nott" and ''Teak Woods" are
"Jined together in the bonds of
alimony" as the parson says.
As "Yard Beautiflcation" was
discussed by Mrs. Greene she
showed morie slides of homes
before and after the houses had
been underpinned, painted and
the yards graded and the right
amount of shrubbery planted.
Much interest was shown <n this
meetiflg, and we were all greatly
benefited by attending.
During the social hour chances
were sold on an apron brought
to the meeting by Mrs. Richard
Minton, at a dime a chance. This
netted the general treasury $3.75.
Mrs. Hunter Church and Mrs.
Albert Vannoy served ice cream,
cake, nuts and Coca Colas to all
present.
Our next meeting will be at
the home of Mrs. E. R. El er.
Everybody is urged to be present
and bring a new member with
you.—Reported.
