M88 MAMIE SOCK WELL — EDITOR ||%MM Miss Helen Lottes Honored At Parties A number of delightful bridal courtesies wore given during the week honoring Miss Helen Lot tes, who on Saturday was mar ried to Corporal Lindsay Martin La wing, of Camp LeJeune. A pink note predominated in the decorations and appoint ments at the miscellaneous show er given by Mrs. Isaac EUler, Sr., and Mrs. J. H. Winkler Wednes day afternoon at the filler ^home on Tenth Street. They had six teen guests, friends of the brfde among the younger' set, whc gave the honoree a shower ol lovely gifts, which were placed in a pink basket. Honor gift from the hostesses for Miss Lottes was silver in her chosen pattern and a corsage of pink carnations. Recipes and advice to the bride elect provided some humorous entertainment. At the close ol the evening the hostesses served a sweet course. On Wednesday evening Mrs. Glenn Winters and two sisters, Misses Blanche an<j Mabel Sid den, gave a rook party at the Sidden home on Trogdon Street. Three tables were arranged for the game, in a bridal setting of green and white, with the high and low score prizes goln^ to Mioses Joanna and Vivian Mc i Neil. Misg Virginia Adams won j the 'bingo prise. Miss Lottes re • celved from the hostesses a gar denia corsage, linen, and china in her pattern. Pjmch and cake were served at the conclusion oi play. . Rook was played at five tables at the party given Thursday eve ning by Mrs. A. A. Sturdiva'nt, Mrs. Johnspn Sanders, and MrB. Nelson Porter at the Sturdivanl home in Wilkesboro as a cour tesy to Miss Lottes. Winners of the higt and low score prizes were Mist Blanche Sidden and Mrs. Faj Hayes, and Miss Lottes received a gardenia corsage and crystal As a final prenuptial courtesj Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Greene wer« hosts at a rehearsal party at their home in Wilkesboro Fri day evening honoring the brida] couple, members of their wed ding party, and out of town guests here for the wedding. A round thirty were present. A green and white note was empha sized in the dining room, and elsewhere abojit the home wert attractive bouquets of mixed flowers. The dining table had for its centerpiece a bowl ol white narcissus and lilly of the valley about which white can dles made a flame. On one end of the table was the punch bowl, and at the other a three-tiered wedding cake, topped with a 'miniature bride and groom standing under a wedding bell. Mrs. R. S. Shoaf, mother of Mrs. Greene, cut the cake, Miss Luray Leonard poured punch, and Mrs. Roy Grouse assisted with the serving. The honored couple, Miss Lottes and Corpor al Lawing, were given a horse shoe tied with white satin rib bon to which was attached cards bearing messages and greetings from each > one present. Favors for the guests were tiny rice bags. Wilkesboro Fidel is Class In Meeting The Fidelis. class of the Wil kesborq Baptist church met Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Arthur Lowe with Mrs. Caswell Yates and Mrs. Kenneth Moore as associate hostesses. Mrs. Robert Foster led the devo tions, Mrs. W. N. Brookshire presided for the business session, and Mrs. A. A. Sturdivant direct ed, two interesting contests. Sev enteen were present and were served refreshments during the social hour. First Baptist S. S. Class Met Tuesday Around twenty-five were pres ent for the April meeting of the Fidelis class of the North Wil kesboro First Baptist church held at the home of Miss Mae Foster Tuesday evening with Mrs. Dew ey Minton, Mrs. J. G. Chipman, Misses Lunda Hendren, Gladys Lomax, and Corinna Robbs as as sociate hostesses. Mrs. Chal Mc Niel, the president, was in charge of the business session, and Mrs. C. B. Eller, teacher of class, gave the devotions. For the rogram Miss Lunda Hendren presented Miss Mildred Bradford, teacher in the North Wilkesboro public school, who gave a most interesting talk on Nicaragua in South America. The hostesses served refreshments at the close of the evening. — Mrs. Albert Garwood Bridge Club Hostess The members of the Wilabri bridge club and some extra guests were delightfully enter tained by Mrs. Albert Garwood at her home in Wilkesboro Thurs day evening.. A dessert course preceded the game of bridge played at three tables. Top score prire within the club went to Mrs. James Lowe while among the vi8itcrs Mrs.. M. M. Brame, Jr., was the winner. Mrs. Rub slel Pearson received the bingo award. Mrs. L. M. Nelson Is Bridge Club Hostess Mrs. L. M. Nelson wig hostess to the members of her bridge club and a few extra guests at her home on Oak Court Friday afternoon. Table prizes in the game went to Mrs. H. B. Smith and Mrs. John P. Justice. Smoak entertained for the members of her bridge club at her home in Wllkesboro Friday evening, the game was played at two tables, and was, followed, by an ice course. Priz-1 es were awarded to Mrs. Lloyd Pardue for high score, to Mrs. W. T. Long for second high score, and to Mrs. M. G.
