Leglonaires your immediate
and active cooperation is abso
lutely essential to our nation's
welfare.
Selective service and universal
military training—th 1b is what
we have been waiting for.
It }s of the utmost importance
that every member of the Sen
ate be Immediately contacted by
as many of their constituents as
possible requesting their support
of the bill, the committee re
ports. This activity is immediate
ly and vitally necessary In view
of the concentrated activity of
opponents to Universal Military
Training. The Communist Party,
through tfie National Youth As
sembly Against Universal Mili
tary Training has proclaimed this
as "National Anti-Universal Mil
itary Training Week." We must
overwhelmingly offset this move
ment at once. Letters from Posts,
Units and individual members of
the American Legion and The
American Legion Auxiliary,
should be sent to each of the two
Senators from your state at
once.

Potato Growers To
Vote On Agreement
Irish potato growers in 41
Eastern North Carolina counties
will vote April 27 to determine
whether they favor the market
ing agreement and order pro
posed by the U. S. Department of
Agriculture, says G. T. Scott,
chairman of the State Production
and Marketing Committee.
The program was recommend
ed after a series of public meet
ings had been held with potato
producers and handlers. Votes
will be cast at local county Agri
cultural Conservation Associ
ation offices.
under a marKeung agreement
and order, Mr. Scott said, grow
ers would be able to jiphold the
quality of potato shipments. Pro
vision could he made for regu
lating the grade, size, and qual
ity of shipments. Grade and size

a committee composed of North
Carolina and Virginia potato pro
ducers and handlers.

such a program the growers can,
especially in periods of surplus
production, help themselves
much better hy emphasizing the
marketing of quuality potatoes.
"This," he continued, "insures
protection of markets for quality
potatoes. Should the potato com
mittee feel It necessary, it could
recommend that culls and low
grade potatoes be held off fresh
markets. However, under the pro
posed program, no regulation of
the marketing of U. S. No. 1
grade or better grade potatoes is
allowed."
North Carolina counties includ
ed in the proposed program are:
Northhampton, Gates, Hertford,
Bertie, Chowan, Perquimans,
