Sock well and Miss Mamie Sockwell. LOCALS 1 Mrs. Dare Hall, of Wilkeaboro, has been a patient at Davis hospital in Statesvtlle since Fri day. Mrs. George McT. Miller has returned to her home here from a visit with her sister, Mrs. J. L. Carlton, at Farmville, Va. Mrs. Donald Lumpkin, of Dur ham, was the guest of her daugh ter, Mrs. Palmer Horton and Mr. Horton last jr&tlk. Mrs. J. D. Moore, Mrs. Mary Moore Hix, Mrs. Bill Carrington and" Mrs. Palmer Horton left to day on an anton&obile trip - to California. Mrs. Carl Coffey and daugh ter, _Miss Blair Coffey, spent the week-end in Raleigh and Dur ham. 1 Mr. and Mrs. C. M. Brown, Jr. and daughter, Norma, spent the week-end in Spartanburg with Mr. Brown's parents. Miss Elizabeth Bush, of Dan ville, Va., and a former resident of this city, was a recent visitor here with relatives and friends. Friends are glad to know, that Mr. Wake Watts was reported today as improving after being seriously ill at the Wilkes hos pital. Mr. H. C. Roberts, a promi nent farmer of the Cycle com munity, was in the Wilkesboros today looking after business mat ters. Friends wijl regret to learn that Mrs. Dossie Lankford has been ill at her home for (some time on North Wilkeeboro, Route one. Dr. and Art. Ms F, Townsend, of Wilmington, were guests last week-end in the home of Mr. and Mrs. P. L. Crook. The TownsendB were on their way to Asheville to attend the State Dental Con vention. . ' Mesdames Carl Buchan, W. C. Grier, F. C. Forester, John - W. Leysho®, and Hubert Winkler attended the meeting of the Win ston-Salem Presbyterial held in the First Presbyterian churfh at Lexington Thursday. Mrs. Fred Clark visited last week in Pittsburgh, Pa., with her( husband, Mr. Clark, who is attending the Art" Institute of Pittsburgh. She was accompan ied on the trip by Mr*. A. 0. Dennis and daughter, Mrs. Gil lis Yates, who visited with rela tives in Pittsburgh, also her mo ther, Mrs. R I* Wellborn, who stopped over in Richmond, Va., for a visit in the home of Mrs. A. H. Berry, stepdaughter of Mrs. Wellborn. Mr. Harold Riley returned this morning to St. Louis, Mo., after spending a few days here. Mr. and Mrs. Riley accompanied Mre. Riley's mother, Mrs. Rosa Reves, to the city last week. Mrs. Reves spent the winter in St. Louis with them. Mrs. Riley will remain here for a several weeks' visit with her mother before returning to St. Louly « Mr. and Mrs. Cecil A. Adam son had as their guests over the week-end Mr. and Mrs. Lee Mc Arthur, of Charlotte. Mrs. Adam son's mother, Mrs. Annie Haines, of Savannah, Ga., has arrived to spend some time with the Adam son*. Mrs. W. F. Jones attended the May Day exercises at Wake For est College held several days ago.
