Still Upward Recent years have brought an upward trend in incidence of the mysterious and artppling infantile paralysis disease, Mr. Sam Ogil ▼le, chairman ot the Wilkes coun ty March of Alfies campaign de clared today. He added that 1948 marked thf sixth consecutive year of unusually high polio inci dence and urged greater support than ever before for the March of Dime*.drive to replenish funds WELL DRILLING Off Different Sixes We can drill in any kind of formation. ROYAL J. RUSSELL Route 2 Pores Knob, N. C. if the local chapter and the Na tional Foundation for Infantile Paralysis: The March/of Dimes chairman disclosed that reports of the Unit ed States Public Health Service over the past 15 years show the totally unpredictable waves of in fantile paraysis across the na tion. Further, these charts, which have been published by the Na tional Foundation as part of its education service, indicate that an epidemic in a given area a year or two ago does not im munize that area during next summer's polio danger period. "A war does not end with the signing of an armistice," Mr. Ogilvie said. "Neither is an epi demic of infantile paralysis over when the last new case of the prevalent disease has been record ed. There remains the grim real ity of the aftermath. The greatest cost is yet to come—the cost of aftercare and rehabilitation of the stricken." Mr. Ogilvie cited various in stances throughout the country where local chapters had paid out record amounts for patient care last year despite low local polio incidence. Even without epidemics, many such chapters < found it necessary to apply for additional aid from the emergen cy fund of the national head quarters, to .care for those strick en in previous years. "In all, more than 400 local chapters in 42 states received aid from the emergency fund of na tional headquarters," Mr. Ogilvie declared. "Treatment of last year's stricken requires record funds in 1949. That's why we here in Wilkes must give 50 per cent more to the-194$ March of Dimes." 32 Breeding Co-Ops Formed In Post Year Thirty-two cooperative associ ations for artificial breeding of dairy cattle were formed In North Carolina during 1948, bringing the total number of associations in the State to 35, according to John F.
