MISS MAM IB SOCK WELL — EDITOR Legion Auxiliary In Monthly Meeting The montl&r meeting of the Legion Auxiliary was held Mon day evening at^the home of Mrs. Russell G. Hodges -with Mrs. Joe B. Johnson aid Miss Ellen Rob inson as cojXostess, having ap proximately twenty members present. Mrs. Richard Finley, the president, occupied the chair dur ing the business session, and the Veteran's Hospitals at Oteen and Payetteville for gifts sent at Christmas. These packages were valued at around $150.00. The Auxiliary voted t0 buy Legion Auxiliary markers to toe present ed to the family in case of a death, Instead of sending flow ers. The programs for the year are being bag'ed on a study of the Pan-American countries, and for the evening's program Mrs. John W. Gibbs, program chairman, will present a program on Youth and Girl Scouts. Mr. and Mrs. Meadows Hosts At Party [ ' ^ Mr. and Mrs. Earl Meadows were hosts at a delightful party at the Pores Knob Community House Monday evening entertain ing at cards. Five tables were arranged for setback, and at the conclusion of play tempting re freshments were served. High and second high score prizes for the ladies went to Mrs. Lawrence Critfcher and Mrs. Kenneth Broy hill and for the men to Bill Carl ton and Kenneth Broyhill. Mrs. M. B. Clark and Dr. J. G. Bent ley received the bingo awards Miss Madge Kilby Feted At Party Mrs. Fred Inscore an Mrs. A. M. Church entertained at the In score home Wednesday evening for Miss Madge Kilby, who on Sunday is to be married to John Gaither. A dessert course was served at the beginning of a game of rook played at two tables. Winners of the high and low score prizes were Miss Kilby and Miss Vera Bumgamer. The honoree received linen, Mr». Con rad Kilby, the former Miss Ruby Edwards, china, and Mrs. Jay Powell, who has gone t0 Valdese for residence, was remembered with a gift. Garden Club Met Tuesday Afternoon The January meeting of the Harden club was held Tuesday afternoon at the home of Mrs. W. F. Gaddy with Mrs. Thurman Kenerly an<j Mrs. Bruce Waugh as associate hostesses. Mrs. A. C. Chamberlain, president, waa in charge of the business session, and for the program Mra. W. E. Jones gave a most hel&ful talk on the care and pruning of shrub bery. Seventeen members were present and were served refresh ments during the social hour. Newly Organized Club Entertained The newly organized Idle Hours Bridge Club was gracious ly entertained Friday evening by Mrs. Wanda K. Miller at her home on t> Street. A delicious spaghetti supper was served at seven o'clock with covers laid for twelve at three beautifully ap pointed tables. The hostess was assisted in serving by hsr mother Mrs. Nell Kerley an^ Miss Vivian Sue McNeil. Afterwards cards were played and a short business session was held. The living room was attractively decorated with seasonal greenery and potted plants. Euzelian Class Meet Largely Attended Twenty-four members were present for the monthly meeting of the Euzelian Sunday school class of the First Baptist church held Tuesday evening at the home of Mrs. Tal Pearson with Mrs. Clint Poster and Mrs. Rex Kilby as associate hostesses. The president, Mrs. Tom Jenrette, had charge of the business ses sion, . and Mrs. Flake Cook led the devotionals. Mrs. Wayne Fos ter, program leader, was assisted by Mrs. Btfmer Brookshlre, who told the Biblical story of Rachel an«J Jacob.. Refreshments were enjoyed during the social hour. Bowling Green, Kentucky Ex Libris Club Met With Mrs. Ford All Ex Libris cltib members were present for their fornight ly meeting held Friday afternoon ■with Mrs. James Ford at her home on F Street. For the pro gram each one read a favorite poem, after which Mrs. Ford read some poems written by her broth er, Hatton Burke, student at Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn. One of Mr. Burke's poemB has been used in a college and university publication "America Sings." The president, Mrs. Vern on Deal, presided for a short bus iness session. Mrs. Robert Mor row was a visitor of the club. At the close of the afternoon the hostess served tempting refresh ments. Hanes-Wyatt Vows Are Announced Mr. and Mrs. Talmadge Shu mate, of Reddles River, announce the marriage of their niece, Miss Irene >Hanes, to Burton Wyatt, son of Mr. and Mrs. Coy L. Wy att, of McGrady. The vows were spoken at the home of the bride's pastor, Rev. D. M. Dillard, on Saturday, January 8. For her nuptials the bride wore a dark green suit n#lth matching accessories and a corsage of red rosebuds. At the present the couple are making their home with the groom's parents. o Oscar Pitts o f' Buncombe county is constructing two new poultry houses on his farm. The houses will have a capacity of 12,000 broilers.
