Pearson left Tuesday to spend a few days at Washington, D. C., and to attend the president's in auguration today. Eller, who has been ill since before Christmas, is still confined W her bed at her home on Tenth street, bnt is making satisfactory improvement. Little improvement is reported in the condition of Mrs. Lottie Johnson, of Wilkesboro, who has been a patient for several weeks at Davis hospital in Stateerille. Friends are glad to learn that Attorney Eugene Trlvette is much Improved following a recent ill ness and has resumed work in his law office here.. Mrs. Cecil Wiles returned on Monday to her home here after receiving treatment for several days at the Baptist hospital In Winston-Salem. Friends of Mrs. G. Warner Miller, of North Wilkesboro, Route 3, will be glad to learn that she Is able to walk again after being confined to her home since November 3, 1948, with a broken knee cap. Mrs. A. H. Roberts, Roaring River, Route 2, has been recover ing nicely from a major opera tion in Baptist' Hospital, Win ston-Salem, and is expected to be able to come home soon. A sister of Mrs. J. C. Llnney from Charleston, S. C., is resid ing with Mrs. J. C. Llnney 'at Hiddenlte. Mrs. Llnney has tanght many years in the Hidde nlte school. * Mr. and Mrs. Dermont Smith and two daughters. Misses Donna and Toby Smith, have moved into the Lloyd Turner home on Trog don Avenue, which they bought sometime ago. Mr, „ and Mrs. Paul Richardson and daughters, Patsy and Bar bara,. of 'Baltimore, Md., spent the week-end with Mr. and Mrs. W. M. Brooks and other relatives in North Wllkesboro. Mrs. J. S. Pardue, Roaring River, Route 2, is recovering at her home from serious injuries sustained when she fell ont • of the barn loft before Christmas. She spent some time in a hos pital. The handsome new brick ve neer church at Cranberry is all paid for but a little over $400. It Is expected that will be paid and the church dedicated very soon. Rev. L. T. Younger is pas tor. Twenty-eight young people from the First Methodist church, accompanied by Mrs. R. H. Shell, Miss Jo Lassiter, and Mr. Jay Anderson, went to Blkin Friday evening for bowling and skating at the Y.M.C.A. Master Tommy Doughton, son of Mr. and Mrs. C. T. Doughton, has been a patient at the Wilkes 'Hospital since Saturday. He is re ceiving treatment for a fractured skull as a result of a fall into a basement. Mrs. R'. L. Abernethy, the former Miss Lois Frazier, under went a major operation at Davis hospital in Statesville Thursday. Friends are glad to know she is | improving and may return home next week. Ray Davis, seaman apprentice, USN, son of S. C. Davis, of North Wilkesboro, is scheduled to ar rive in Norfolk, Va., February 9, after a six-months' cruise in the Mediterranean Sea aboard the de stroyer USS Dickson. Rev. Ralph Miller, of North Wilkesboro route one, is attend ing a Baptist Bible school at Fruitland. Rev. J. C. Canlpe is president of the school,'which has more than 100 ministers of this part of the state in attendance. According to a letter from his niece, Mrs. Thomas A. Mobley, Hon. Julius C. Martin, of Wash ington, D. C., ana Chevy Chase, Md., native of Wilkes, remains quite weak and sick. He can sit up but it is feared he will not be able to be out again. Messrs. T. M. Netherland, of Dinwiddle, Va., C. R. Netherland, of Wakefield, Va., and Mrs. Dan iel E. Brown, of Ballsville, Va., spent the week-end here in ihe home of their sister, Mrs. J.'C. Reins. .Mrs. Brown is still here, having remained for a longer visit. Dr. Marshall Mott, former pas tor of the First Baptist church of Spartanburg, was reported critically ill today at the U. S. Veterans 'Hospital at Oteen. He was admitted to the hospital last week. Son of a Statesville man, he was a lawyer at first and prac ticed in Winston-Salem before ca tering the ministry. Dr. J. ,H. Sowder, a North Wilkesboro Optometrist, return ed Tuesday from a two-day grad uate seminar In Charlotte. Dr. A. M. Skeffington, noted for his re search work in the Optometrlc field in the National Optometric Extension Program, conducted the (Graduate Clinic. Optometrists | throughout the state attended.
