M. Brame, Jr., presiding, Jan. 18. The manager referred to cor respondence from Harry Krusz, of the Winston-Salem Chamber, In connection with the southern meeting of chambers of commerce in Winston-Salem the last of I March. It was pointed out that the plan to have the delegates make a trip into the western part of the state had been eliminated because of the possibility of dele gates arriving late and hazardous weather at that season. The board was asked by the president if it wished to receive the legislative bulletin of the 1949 General Assembly at a cost of $15.00, and an additional $1.00 per week for ^xtra weeks. The board approved this sub scription. The manager presented infor mation regarding the proposal ot a candidate for the U. S. Cham ber of Commerce board of direc tors. The board felt that this community should be recognizer in this connection and should participate in making a nomina tion. R. G. Finley made a mo tion that the board go on record proposing J. B. Williams as a nominee for the Board of Direc tors of the U. S. Chamber. This was seconded by J. B. Carter and passed. President Brame brought rfp the following legislative matters for action: (1) Regarding the Wage-Hour Act S.248, the board approved action already taken by the president and manager whereby the State Labor Com mittee and the N. C. senators had been urged to request full hear ings on S.248 regarding increas ing minimum wages and clarify ing amendments. The manager presented information regarding the request of the N. C. Ports Authority in which the legisla ture is asked to appropriate ap proximately 7 1-2 million for modern docks, transit sheds and warehouses at Morehead City and Wilmington, N. C. Although oppose^ to extravagant spending of state funds, the board felt that development of state ports is important to our whole econ omy. The board went on record favoring the request of the State Ports Authority and asked that our local representative be noti fied of this decision. The manager stated that Rep resentatives C. B. Deane and R.t». Doughton had notified local rep resentatives regarding the estab lishment of a highway post of fice to begin Feb. 4. It was a greed that a brief ceremony be arranged in North Wilkesboro at the time the highway post office makes its first arrival here. President Brame appointed the Executive Committee composed of Bid Williams, Vernon Deal, Joe Barber, Richard Johnston, Tom Jenrette and himself to prepare and recommend a 1949 budget for presentation in the first meeting of the new board in February. Oliver Richardson Funeral On Saturday Funeral service was held Sat urday, two p. m., at Round Hill Baptist church for Oliver F. Rich ardson, 77, well known resident of Traphill township who died Thursday. Rev. L. E. Sparks and Rev. Troy Blevins officiated. Surviving Mr. Richardson are one son and three daughters: C.j E. Richardson, Greensboro; Mrs.| Roy Alexander, Roaring River; Mrs. Ray Lankford, North Wil-| kesboro; Mrs. B. C. Jordan, Lo-, max.
