Newton Entertains Her Ckib The members of the Round Table Book club were entertain ed by Mrs. W. K. Newton at her home on the Brushy Mountain Friday afternoon. Following a dessert course bridge was played at two tables. Mrs. Xvey Moore received the top score prize, and Mrs. Vernon Deal, visitor of the club, the low score award. The traveler's prize went to Mrs. Ru fus Church. The group made an exchange of books, and were Bhown over the home, which has been redecorated, and additions made. Mrs. Moore Attends Church Meeting Mrs. Ivey Moore attended an executive meeting of the officers of the Statesvllle district of the Methodist Woman's Society held Monday at the home of Mrs. W. L. Lazenby near Statesvllle. Mrs. Lazenby Is secretary of supplies for the district. At the meeting plans were made for the year's work, including the sub-district meetings to be held. Mrs. Moore, chairman of sub-district No. 1, extended invitation for the meet ing to be held here In the First Methodist church, Wednesday, April 13. Mrs. L. A. Hausej; T. E. L Class Hostess Mrs. L. A. Hauser was hos tess to the members of the T. E. L. class of the F^rst Baptist church held Tuesday evening at her home on F Street. Mrs. C. G. Kllby led the opening prayer aft er which the group sang "Bleat Be the Tie". Mrs. W. F. Jones conducted the devotional period, and Mrs. C. G. Myers, the vice president, was in charge of the business session. Thirteen mem bers Were present and were serv ed refreshments during the so cial hour. Mrs. Bowen Feted At Winston-Salem Elkin.—Mrs. William T. Roth of ESlkin and Mrs. Robert Bowpn of Winston-Salem jointly enter tained at an afternoon tea on Saturday in Winston-Salem, as a postnuptial courtesy to Mrs. Ray mond S. Bowen who before her; wedding last month was Miss Joanna McNeill of North Wilkes boro. In the receiving line were the hostesses, the honoree and Mrs. Archie McNeill of North Wilkesboro. Miss Mattie Mae Powell of Elkin, poured tea; Mrs. Alvin "Bowen presided at the reg ister and sisters of the bride as sisted in serving the 12*5 guests wh0 called. Woman's Bible Class In Monthly Meeting Fourteen members were pres ent for the monthly meeting of the Woman's Bible class of thto First Methodist church held Tuesday afternoon at the homfe of Mrs. Isaac Eller on Tenth Stre with Mrs. J. M. Crawford as associate hostess. Mrs. Fdd F. Gardner led the opening devo> tions followed by a skit given by Mesdames W. F. Gaddy, Gilbert R. Combs, and Mrs. Crawford. Mrs. Eller, the new .president, was- in charge of the business session during whlctf time she appointed a number of commit tees, and distributed names for "Big Sisters" again this year. It was announced that the Febru ary meeting would be held with Mrs. Gaddy. DuriQg the social hour the hostesses served strawberry shortcake with coffee. Miss Grace Roland Entertains Her Club A delightful club party of the week was the one given by Miss Grace Roland Friday evening, entertaining for the members of the Idle Hours club at the home of Miss Mae Foster xm Kensing ton Drivel Bridge was played at three tables with a dessert course preceding play. Mrs. Arnold Da vis, the former Miss Joyce Kllby, was.welcomed Into the club as -a new member. Presbyterian Auxiliary In Monthly Meeting Twenty-eight members attend ed the January meeting of the Presbyterian Auxiliary held Tues day evening in the assembly room of the educational building. Mrs. T. A. Finley, the president, to open the meeting" read a poem "I Met the Master" and led in a short prayer. A number of re ports were heard during the bus iness session. Mrs. W. J. Bason, program chairman, directed a most help ful program on the thought, bringing the outside in the home. Mrs. Ralph Buchan gave the meditation on devotions in the home, and those making" short talks, which included some com munity activities, were Mesdames E. G. Finley, J. S1.
