S$5,003 Monthly b Paid Ir Wilkes In Old Age Benefits In the area serviced by the Salisbury office of the Social Se curity Administration there are now 2,071 persons receiving monthly benefit checks totaling $23,300.00, under Old-Age and Survivors Insurance provisions of the Social Security Act. Clement, man ager of the Salisbury, N. C. of fice of the Social Security Admin istration explained that when t fully insured wage-earner, wh< is 65 years old or more, filet claim for his monthly old-age in surance benefits, his wife ma] claim monthly benefits, if she ii 65 years old or when she reachei that age. In addition, each of hit children under age 18 will re ceive monthly benefits—except that the benefits for the entire family may not be more thai twice the amount of the retiree wage-earner's own monthly pay ment. When an insured worker dies leaving a widow with his childrer in her care, monthly payments of survivors insurance are made to his widow and to his childrer under age 18. This will be paid [regardless of the age of the wi dow. An insured worker's widow who had reached age 65 is eligi ble for benefits whether or not she has a child in her care. Where the insured wage-earn er dies and leaves no survivor entitled to monthly benefits, a" lump-sum death payment is made to the widow who was Hving with the deceased wage-earner, or to the person who paid the burial expenses. Given below are the figures for Wilkes county, which show the number of beneficiaries in each group and the amount c<f the payments per month. Retired workers (65 or more) 97, $1,773.00. Wives of retired workers, 65 years old or over, 30, $282.00. Widows 65 years old or over, 11, $159.00. Widows having children under 18 in their care, 41, $683.00. Children under 18, 212, $2, 09(5.00. Aged dependent parents, 1, $11. Totals, 392, $5,003.00. o Barron Dance Will Open Legion Building Lenoir.—The "music of yes terday and today" as furnished by Blue! Barron and his Orches tra direct from an extended ho tel engagement in New York City will mark the opening dance in the newly-completed Ameri can Legion home here Monday night, February 7th. It is particularly fitting that Blue Barron has been chosen to play for the opening dance in the new $150,000 structure since Barron himself is a veteran of World War II. Proceeds . from the dance will go to the Legion building fund, with admission being $1.50 per person during the advance sale j and $1.75 per person at the door. Elkin Man Injured In Automobile Wreck Elkin, Feb. 1.—Ernest Bates, 30, of Elkin, Route 1, suffered a severe spine injury and a lacerat ed arm Sunday afternoon near his home west of here when his car went out of control, struck a tree and turned over. Bates was thrown from the car and is a patient at Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital here. Garnie Pruitt, owner of the car and a passenger in the ma chine, escaped with minor bruis es. Reports said the car went out of control when the radius rod came loose. Average time for milking a cow by hand is 8.7 minutes per cow. But the average time for milking a cow by machine is on ly 5.3 minutes.
