TWO SHOWS NIGHTLY—7:00-8:45 / from the curb tiro cars came up the street at a high rate of speed and apparently racing. The car in front swerved to the,right and crashed into the left 8lde of the police car. It carooned off, overturned and slid 75 yards down the street. Neither officer was Injured but the car was badly damaged. Before they could reach the overturned car the driver had got out and fled. The car which had been followed made a Uturn on two wheels and went away in the other direction. The car which hit the police car was registered in the name of Wiley Sanford Potts, of North Wilkeeboro, but had been sold toy him some time ago. The other car was registered in the name of Ambrose Mathis, of North Wilkesboro route three, for whom' police issued a warrant. At 4:30 a. m. Saturday a new car driven by Hoke Allen Francis, of West Jefferson, ran wild near Ronda, Highway Patrolman Clyde Shook reported. The car ran 350 feet on the left shoulder of the road, crossed the road to the right and hit a white pine tree eight inches in diameter. The tree broke 15 feet from the ground and the top fell into highway 268. The car proceeded 35 feet and overturned on its back. The driver was not Injured arid he came to North Wilkesboro to report the accident.
