Miss Margaret Hutchens, of St. Mary's College, Raleigh, is spending her spring vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Hoyle Hutchens. Miss Margie Newton ha8 re turned to Virgina-ilntermont Col lege. Bristol, Tenn., after spend ing several days with her moth er, Mrs. Walter Newton. x ■Miss Jane Carter, of Sweet Briar College, is spending spring vacation at her home here. She visited in Baltimore before com ing home. iMiss Marie Gambill, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. B. G. Gambill. of this city, underwent an ap pendectomy at the Wilkes hospi tal yesterday morning. Friends are glad to know that Mr. J. u. Henderson Is Improving and is able to be oat again. He suffered a heart attack during the latter part of January. ; Mrs. B. G. Gambill has re turned to her home from the Wilkes hospital after being a pa tient there for several days. Mrs. Gambill is well on the road to recovery following an operation. Among those from here who attended the golf tournament in Greensboro during the week-end were Messrs. Phillip Brame, Hen ry Moorq, Jerry Derr and Jack Swofford. Miss Dorothy Jennings, who holds ,a position in Greensboro, and Miss Virginia Jennings, a senior at Appalachian State Teachers' College, spent the week-end with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. R. C. Jennings, of Pores Knob. Mr. Howard Strader attended the Greensboro Greater Open i gold toiurnament In Greensboro | during the week-end. He was ac companied home by Mrs. Strad er, who spent last week with relatives and friends in Greens boro. Captain and Mrs. Jim Sanges visited friends here Tuesday. Captain Sanges, principal of North Wilkesboro high school last year, is in the army air force, flying B-50'b, and has been stationed at Albuquerque, New Mexico. He has been transferred to Savannah, Ga. Miss Vivian Kerbangh, who has been director of religious ed ucation at the First Baptist church at Elizebath City, arriv ed here Monday to be wifh her parents, Mr. and Mrs. J. T. Ker baugh, until after her marriage on Sunday, April 10, to Mr. Ken neth Greene, of Boone. Mrs Zeb Davis and Mrs. Harold Hartley have returned from a visit with Mrs. Davi8' daughters, Mrs. Larry Cameron and Mrs Howard K. Johnson, in St. Aug ustine, Florida. While in Flori da, they visited Silver Springs, dcala, Green Cove Springs, Day tona Beach, Marine Studios and other points of interest. Mr. T. C. Caudill returned Monday to his position as mana ger of the Carolina Motor Club branch here after spending sev eral days at the Wilkes hospital following an accident, March 18. Mr. Caudill was struck by a car while crossing Main street here and he received a skull frcature and fracture in his right fore arm. Friends are glad to know he is getting along fine. Mr. O. K. Whitington, Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. O. K. Whitting ton; Mr. Bill Casey, son_of Mrs. A. H\ Casey; Mr. Tommy Whick er, son of Attorney and Mrs. J. H. Whicker; Mr. Lyfcn Kerbaugh, son of Mr. and 'Mrs. .T. T. Kp.r baugh; and Mr. Jimmie Moore, son of Mrs. Ethel V. Moore, all students of Wake Forest College, are spending the spring holidays this w.eek at their respective homes. Mrs. J. A. Gabriel, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Gabriel and Mr. Joe Gabriel, of Lincolnton, were guests of Mr. and Mrs. W. G. Gabriel here Sunday. .They came especially to hear Mr. Gabriel's message at Layman's Day Sun day at the First Methodist church, he being the speaker for that service. Mrs. J. A. Gabriel is the mother and Mr. Paul Gabriel and Mr. Joe Gabriel are 'brothers of Mr. W. G. Gabriel. Mrs. C. E. Jenkins and Mrs. A. C. Chamberlain have returned from Asheville where they at tended the second class of the State Garden School which is put on by State College. There were lectures Monday and Tuesday by horticulture professors, also lec tures each day by Mrs. M. Coch rane Cole, of Bronrville, N. Y., on flower show practice, judging and arrangement. Members of the North Wilkesboro Garden club are urged to attend a class on flower arrangement in Newton at the elementary school at eight p. m. Tuesday, April 19. The in structor will be Mrs. Louise FiBh er from Williamsburg, Va.
