Mrs." Darwin Smithey, the president, Presided for a business session, and Mrs. Vernon Deal gave a review of the ibook, "The Cleft Rock , by Alice Tisdale Hobart. The guests, including Mrs. Jim Steele, a visi tor, were served refreshments at t^he close of the afternoon. Miss Norma Stevenson Is Dinner Hostess Miss Norma Stevenson was hostess at a lovely dinner party at the Wilkes Hotel Thursday evening, entertaining tor the members of the Tea and Topics club, of which she is a member, and two extra guests, Mrs. Stokes Hunt and Miss Evelyn Little. Yellow jonquils and carnations, white snapdragons, and) ye"®w candles decorated the table, while at each guest's plate was a mini ature corsage of yellow roses tied with yellow ribbon. The yellow note was furthered in the three course dinner served at six-thirty o'clock. Following the dinner the group spent an informal hour together on the messanine floor of the hotel. Mesdames McNeil, Gdmbill Entertain At Bridge Mrs. M. B. McNeil and Mrs. Gwyn Gambill were hostesses at a lovely party at the McNeill home on Ninth Street Saturday afternoon, having guests for nine taibles of bridge. High score prize amongst the out of town guests, which included a number of friends from Sparta and W. Jef ferson^ went to Mrs. A.L. Strauss, of Sparta, and top score prise in the local group was won by Mrs Edward Bell. Miss Mildred Brad ford received second high score prize, Mrs. Doris Brown the floating prize, and Mrs. Ray Hoover the bingo award. A dessert course was served at the beginning of play. Mixed spring flowar» made a oolorfuJ setting for the guests. Mrs. Iyey Moore, sub district chairman, is to be in charge of the meeting. A num ber of district officers are to ap pear on the program, including Mrs. T. V. Goode and Mrs. Ralph Sherrill, iboth of Statesville, and Mrs. J. P. Hornbuckle, of New I ton. Mrs. C. C. Weaver, of Win ' ston-Salem, a past president of 1 the conference, is expected to at tend. Lunch will be served at one o'clock in the educational build ing. All members of the local So ciety are urged to attend, and it is hoped that large delegation will be present from all the other church# in the sub-district. MacDowell Music Club Has Social Meet \ The Juvenile division of the MacDowell Music Club, of which Mrs. Andrew Kilby is counselor, met recently at the home of Mrs. Kilby. Wanda Patrum, Jean Way land, Tommy Frazier and Tim Williams were Joint hostepes and hosts. The meeting was presided ov er by iMartha Gozeal Justice, the president. The meeting was open ed by using club hymn, pledge and collect. Those taking part on the pro gram were: Jane Gamibill, Tim Williams, Bettie Chloe and Sar ah Jane Payne, Patricia Wood ward, Colleen Moore, Julia Ann Elledge, Tommy Frazier, ^Michael Carrington, Abigail Church, Jean Wayland, Dorothy Darlington, Wanda Patrum, Martha Gozeal Justice. Delicious refreshments were served. Mothers present were Mrs. Ralph Frazier, Mrs. Gwyn Gam bill, Mrs. Joe Darlington, Mrs. J. C. Williams, and Mrs. Ira D. Ayne. Miss Ghita Tuttle "Bridge Ctub Hostess " A delightful club party of the week was the one given by Miss Ghita Tuttle, entertaining for the members of her ibridge club and some extra guests, at the Smith ey Hotel in Wilkesboro Friday evening. Mrs. Juliqs C. Hubbard won the top score prize for club members, and Mrs. R. F. Dunn for the visitors, and Miss Mable Hendren the 'bingo award.
